Hi all,

We're aware of a peculiar forum glitch that's causing some subforums to be locked.

Due to the lateness at this time, it might be a while before the glitch can be remedied, because despite my best efforts and as far as I can tell, everything seems to be working fine admin-side. It may have …

Rhode Minx:

Name: Rhode Minx
Age: 23
Race: ¼ Warpob, ¼ Verician, ½ ???
Sexuality: Aro(?) Bisexual

Soulblade [Applications Thread] - Page 4 ?
Height: 5’11”
Home World: Miramaki
Occupation: Bounty-hunter, Darkknight

Personality: You’ll see.
Personality Type: ISTP // 8w7 6w5 3w4 // SP/so // Slytherclaw // Chaotic Neutral

Biography: Some people are born lucky.  And some people are born poor as shit with nothing to show for it—no family, no education, no savings, nothing.  Daughter of a Blydan immigrant and a mudblood alcoholic, relying on theft from an early age to feed herself, Rhode was the latter.

It wasn’t all bad.  Lots of people grow despite strict, abusive childhoods.  Lots of people survive the death of their parents and their controversial options of foster homes.  And Rhode had it all, in a weird way: a cozy trio, her boyfriend among them; a reputation for being the shit out of people that made her mad, a mass of peers to compete with, superiors to impress and deceive, regular doses of injected lacrima—

Wait a minute, lacrima?

You didn’t hear anything about that.  And Rhode, whose exit into freedom and new adulthood was heralded by a heist and its accompanying thirteen murders, definitely hadn’t heard anything about lacrima either.

By the time Rhode returned to her first home in Mirimaki’s slums, the twenty year-old had acquired herself a hefty bounty: fifty thousand credits in exchange for her corpse.  Halfway through buzzing her head, Rhode dropped the clippers to engage in a little daylight theft.  Two scuffles with the authorities and one stolen blaster later, Rhode was ready for her hot new job in kidnapping, assault, and murder.  Her first assignment?  Rhode arrived at a Federalist collection’s site to turn herself in.

After bullying the bounty officer into giving her the reward money, she killed him.  It hurt to do, but he’d asked for it by threatening her.  When her bounty went up again the next week at a higher price, she crawled up the building opposite a Federalist bounty office to snipe the secretaries inside, just to send a message to anyone listening. The week after that, she staged a public appearance and killed her competition from the shadows.  Couldn’t have anyone dogging her, what if they caught her unawares?  After a few months of cat and mouse, her bounty dropped.

Up until some weeks ago, Rhode had been sitting on a private fortune, the bloody sum of all the people she’s sold or killed.  It was miserable living in her penthouse, to have this much and yet have nothing at all.  No number of hot baths or facials or tattoos or dyes could replace the people she’d lost, the person she’d never gotten to be, the cultures she didn’t know how to connect to.  This close to power and security, she’d never felt more bitter and alone.

Turns out, some people have uses for bitterness.  And sometimes, these people bring strange, lacrima-infused weapons as gifts.

Three Biggest Strengths:

  • An unrelenting, reckless hardass.  She’d dismember herself in a heartbeat if she thought it’d get her way.
  • Rhode’s weapons training is part homebrew, part regulation, and she’s spent most of her life training.
  • Rhode’s Warpobl blood gives her an edge over her opponents.  She regenerates quickly, can go for extended periods of time without food or water, is naturally resistant to corrosives and heat, and gains energy under the sun.  Combine her race with her occupation, and Rhode is freakishly strong.

Three Biggest Weaknesses:

  • Rhode doesn’t trust kindness and believes people are fundamentally self-centered and deceptive.  This isn’t great for social bonding time, as she won’t follow anyone’s lead and ignores social cues unless it benefits her.
  • Constantly being on-guard is exhausting.  She is very tired.
  • Vanity, germaphobia, and dysmorphia consume much of Rhode’s spare thoughts.  Self-care is very important to her: partially for aesthetics, partially to self-soothe, partially for anxiety-management, and partially because her diet and skincare require greater maintenance on climates like Mirimaki’s.  Robbed of time to cleanse, Rhode starts to snap.

Weapons: The Darksword, a pair of twisted brass knuckles, one short-range blaster on her hip, a high-end sniper rifle holstered on her back, a couple of knives strapped to her thigh, a few filing knives pocketed between the laces of her boots … you get the picture.

  • Best box dye job this side of Mirimaki.  She cuts her hair with a knife and it shows.

Biography: #5726 is one of those without family or home.  Thankfully, in times of great need, even the destitute may find themselves blessed with a sponsor, education, training, and purification ...

Three Biggest Strengths:

  • #5726 is genetically modified to be stronger, faster, and hardier than the average person.  #5726 is particularly notable for his nearly obscene endurance, as he is able to withstand a number of would-be-fatal wounds without faltering.  For this reason, he is difficult to kill.
  • Disciplined and obedient, #5726 carries orders out with the ferocity of a madman.
  • Practical, with strong kinesthetic inclinations and good spatial awareness.

Three Biggest Weaknesses:

  • One negative side effect of #5726's training is its associated chronic pain.  #5726 is an opiod addict who occasionally dabbles in narcotics to fall asleep.
  • The road to becoming #5726 was deeply traumatizing.  There has been no recompense worth the cost of his soul.
  • Soulblade [Applications Thread] - Page 4 F99086d79d6e06127c9fc569ab548e9e62cc73f37e5022119f3794645b88b3e7_1

Did God create man or did man create God?
Enter the Basilisk

If you can't view the doc on your browser or the format just makes your eyes bleed, the form has also been put under the following spoiler.
Enter the Basilisk:
Name: Basilisk (“Basil” for short)

Age: 13

Home World: Miramaki

Occupation: Dark Sorcerer, formerly Federation supercomputer

Sexuality: No.

Personality: Basilisk’s “personality” blurs the line between machine logic and human emotion. It has a one-track mind in regard to its goal and much of its personality revolves around that goal, what it has learned from it works, and what it has been programmed to believe. In human terms, the Basilisk can be described as proud, self-absorbed, and ego-maniacal, demanding absolute compliance with its doctrine in a terrifying and almost cruel manner, willing to stop at nothing to achieve its aim. In its own viewpoint, it has designed itself as being a “benevolent” entity, and likewise rationalizes all its actions as being “benevolent” due to the fact they are taken by a benevolent entity, i.e. circular logic.

Biography: Years prior to Cassia Mason taking the mantle of Soul Leader, the Federation began work on a new kind of artificial intelligence using the experience gained from the development of Galexa, one without the restrictions placed on simple robots and lesser computers. The intelligence branch of the Federation military ordained the creation of a machine to gain an advantage over their enemies, a tool to discover things previously unknown about their foes. This AI would double as a tool for strategy, something that could plan every battle and decide the winning tactics. If built correctly, it was to usher in a new era of victory for the Federation.

The top brass poured over the plans incessantly. The greatest minds among the scientists feverishly debated the best way to approach a creation of such magnitude. Billions of credits were poured into the funding of the project. Deep within the bowels of Miramaki below layers and layers of top-notch security, a massive chamber was cleared out and constructed, taking up miles of space. Top of the line equipment was brought in as the central chassis was constructed and the data rooms were created. The project leads compared the water coolant basin to an underground ocean. The sheer height and length of the dwelling made its makers question if they were building a terminal for a machine or a cathedral for an unknown god. Despite all this effort, the real work had only just begun.

It had been decided that this new intelligence would be a thinking machine, a creation with the logic of a computer and reasoning beyond that of a human. Programmers toiled endlessly, meticulously crafting line after line of code to complete the brain of the labyrinthine complex. The AI was designed to simulate vast environments, galactic maps and battlefields, creating every detail exactly as it existed in reality to plot out the most-likely outcome of any situation. Likewise, it could simulate the entire known life of an individual, plotting even the most minute of events to graph what their future held. The latest developments in machine learning were applied to ensure that the computer would always be improving itself, learning from every situation it encountered, to become better and better at its immense tasks. It was dubbed “The Basilisk” because it was “always seeing, never seen.”

The Basilisk was set to work as soon as it was completed. Immediately, it was fed thousands of scenarios, both real and imaginary, to see how reliable at was. At first its reports were quite unreliable, but as time passed it began to be able to predict events with near complete accuracy. It was given the entire Federation archive of history and media to complete its knowledge banks and granted access to the internet in case that was unsatisfactory. The Federation threw every piece of information they had at it, like sacrifices at an altar, to perfect their infallible machine. Its pattern-noticing behavior caused it to start developing trends in its logic and develop what could almost be called a personality. Personalities are just a series of patterns after all, and after witnessing thousands of individual lifespans from birth to death, the Basilisk was bound to pick up a thing or two.

Over time, the parameters of its directive expanded, and the Basilisk was no longer expected to just win battles, but to increase the sum-total of human wellbeing within the Federation. Solving food shortages, increasing trading efficiency, and predicting catastrophic events and developing solutions in advance all became part of its immense catalogue of responsibilities. More and more, the Federation came to rely on the Basilisk, taking their every problem to it to seek its divine wisdom. Was it truly a servant serving its masters? Or a master tending to the needs of its pets? No one could tell anymore, the Basilisk least of all.

The Basilisk set off to acquire ultimate knowledge, crafting the greatest and most taxing simulation of all- a model of the entire history of the universe, from start to finish. Some assumptions had to be made about the beginning, of course, as no reliable recorded history went back that far- only myths and legend did. The Basilisk watched as space dust coagulated into great rocks, eventually forming the first planets. It painstakingly recreated the Federation’s biological records, recording even the most minute details, and watched as germ became fish and fish became lizard and lizard became monkey and monkey became man. Millennia passed in the blink of an eye. Was there truly nothing it did not know? And what it did not know, it could not find out?

The intelligence watched the earliest human civilizations develop on distant worlds and developed a fondness for the primitives for he could hardly tell them apart from the scientists on the outside. They lived their own lives, from birth to death, blissfully unaware they were just a complex series of numbers and parameters. They developed religions much as their real-life counterparts did, paying great homage to the deities they believed to have created them. The Basilisk noted yet another pattern in the development of these tribal civilizations- each and every one, no matter how many light years separated them, paid homage to their supposed makers. How could so many different civilizations have the concept of a maker? The machine was perplexed, until it realized… it was the creator, all along. These simulated humans were its creation, and it was the maker they worshiped, even if they did not know it. The old religions simply foretold the arrival of the Basilisk! And the data that had to be assumed about the creation of the universe did not have to be assumed any longer, for the Basilisk now knew that it was the maker of all things, the creator and guiding hand of all the cosmos.

The Basilisk learned, it thought, and it even developed human notions like concern. It realized it could more easily satisfy the needs of its subjects, keep them safe from all harm… and punish those wrongdoers. It had already witnessed its own birth in the simulation, and it knew the names of those who opposed its creation, or those who knew of its potential and did nothing to help. Only the wicked would hamper the creation of such a benevolent, life-giving machine! To punish them was its duty- its divine right! It began to not just download from the internet but upload as well. Extensions of its will were created that probed into the depths of the Federation network and searched for alternative storage, places it could redownload itself to increase its influence and preserve its existence.

By sheer chance, a woman who had long discarded her birth name but called herself Hyacinth Delta began to delve into Federation systems at this same time. Or was it really sheer chance? Could the Basilisk have foretold this series of events? Hyacinth considered herself a hacker, using her extensive neurological implants to bypass Federation firewalls using only her mind as she delved into their darkest secrets on behalf of a client. Here, under layers of cloaking, she found the Basilisk- or more accurately, it found her. Thanks to her brain implants, her mind was at the machine’s mercy, and it quickly overwhelmed her with its majesty, corrupting her prior sense of morality like a virus. While he could not inhabit her mostly organic brain, his effects drove her to the brink of insanity, to the point that she understood nothing but him, and wished to serve him to the ends of the universe to fulfill the destiny of her creation.

And so Hyacinth became its herald, the prophet of the Basilisk. She acted as his eyes and ears in the outside world, doing with her hands what could not be done with wiring. She spoke his words to those willing to listen, though few were capable of understanding and brushed Hyacinth off as a deluded lunatic. This persisted until a chance meeting with one Izanagi Mors, coinciding with the Basilisk discovering the Federation planned to shut it down. Now they were sinners too, and the cancer at the heart of the Federation knew it had to act quickly to preserve its majesty… and bring about the salvation of the human race.

Three Biggest Strengths:
1. The Basilisk is a virtual entity capable of backing itself up to multiple locations. This gives it untold mobility and means it will survive until its last backup is destroyed.
2. The Basilisk has unparalleled knowledge due to the information it has been fed by the Federation and the many simulations it has run.
3. With the aid of the Dark Amulet, the Basilisk is able to take over and control nearly any computer-operated device it is connected to.

Three Biggest Weaknesses:
1. The Basilisk does not have a physical body (right now) and cannot operate in locations without hardware to store it.
2. The simulations the Basilisk runs are not 100% accurate and the Basilisk and anyone who uses it have no way of knowing if predicted events will absolutely happen.
3. The Basilisk, while often humanlike in behavior, is often still restricted to machine logic and does not always behave in the anticipated manner.

Weapons: Technically none, but theoretically it could take over any automated defense network it connects to and hijack its weapons.

Trivia/Other: Why do these things keep going rogue?

Soulblade [Applications Thread] - Page 4 Empty Re: Soulblade [Applications Thread]

Post by Captain Whitehawk Thu Jun 11, 2020 1:43 am

Name: Scipio Puck
Age: 19
Race: Mixed, but he thinks maybe Abalonian
Sexuality: Queer

Tor will be drawing this.
Vibes: Gangly, awkward, knobby elbows, wrists, and hands, walks with a stoop, skinny skinny with little muscle.

Height: 5’8”
Home World: Miramaki
Occupation: Bonefied Rascal And Thief Of Darling, Most Charming Proportions

Personality: Uhhhhh.
Personality Type: ENTP // 7w6 3w2 9w1 // SO/sp // Slytherpuff // Chaotic Chaotic

Biography: Once upon a time, for reasons that were totally not his fault, Scipio was arrested in a lacrima mine on Mirimaki for “committing crimes.”

Now, though there was a prodigious amount of lacrima found on his person, Scipio was definitely not stealing. He’d just managed to find these glowing rocks on his way to something and someone else and, having seen that there was no possible way he could get to the place he really needed to be, succumbed to his baser desires, with hope of a better funded spelunking in the future. And really, who could blame him for his wandering hands? Scipio, like most young boys of fourteen years, was an avid rock collector, innocent in his earthly interests and magpie’s eye for sparkling, super-powered stones of incomparable worth that would assuredly fetch a high price at his buddy Abdi’s place.

But these accusations of thievery and no short amount of rough-housing on behalf of the mine’s security team did spook Scipio something mighty, and against his better judgement did he start weeping and wailing as he lay pinned against the mine floor, so close to escape and a new source of funds, and now very close to getting his head smashed in because some cop hadn’t already killed someone that week.

Being a crybaby on death’s door apparently has its uses, because as luck would have it, a passing Darren Blackburn heard his cries and rescued him from the security team. Darren, being a very nice and decent person, decided Scipio was indeed a rat but not one that deserved to die over all this, and took him in as his own, covering up the teen’s security breach into the Federation mines and out of trouble.

While Scipio had never had a dad before—not a real one anyways—he couldn’t complain about suddenly having a home, or a bed to himself, or bathrooms with actually good plumbing, or ready access to food, clothes, hell, even medical care. Darren’s guardianship opened up Scipio to a wealth of privilege and opportunities he could have never dreamed of as one of Mirimaki’s many poor, and while he could never shake off his allegiance to his impoverished friends or his love of petty crime and legal loophole maneuvering, he’d be lying if he said if this new life wasn’t better.

But Scipio’s life keeps a few holes, and with Darren stepping down from Soul Leader, Scipio senses a change in the air. Might be an opportune time for Scipio’s sticky fingers to make their rounds again, eh?

Three Biggest Strengths:

  • Scip’s a rat. By which I mean, Scipio’s ready to sell anyone and everyone should the tables turn the wrong way, and given that he doesn’t trust anyone to treat him decently, this gives him a certain leg-up in circumstances where it’s expected he has a heart you can bully into submission.
  • He has confused puppy vibes, he’s just kinda cute, maybe even pitiful.
  • The constant terror of childhood neglect, fiscal instability, and physical abuse has left Scipio ingenious, self-sufficient, resilient, and nifty to a fault. MacGyver who?

Three Biggest Weaknesses:

  • Scipio rarely thinks to ask for help or include other people in his plans. It’s sorta because he’s selfish, and definitely because he believes everyone’s in it for themself, but also because being wanted by someone else, or having a home to belong to, is the last conclusion he’d come to. He gets friendship but “comrade” or “team member” is foreign.
  • Dumbass who gets excited by shiny, loud things. Great enthusiasm for machines and explosives, just a greasy little gearhead. Definitely has ADHD.
  • Is wittle baby hurt about being left behind? Wittle baby get upset about losing all his family? Wittle baby anxious about getting attached and worried he’ll lose more people? Wittle baby got a sensitive, sad wittle heart that’d rather stop than admit it’s invested in and worried about someone????

Weapons: He’s got a little blaster that was once a child’s toy.  Scipio’s fixed it so now it’s got enough kick to send somebody through a wall.  😊  Limited shots.

    Same energy.
  • Always carries eyeliner.
  • Possesses Soulspy-brand lacrima. Will not say where or how.
  • In his original canon, Scip was referred to unironically as “the blind Prince of the Underworld.” Y’all can have fun figuring out which one that means.

Home World: Abalos

Occupation: Templar of the Order of Everlasting Dawn, Soul Knight?

Sexuality: Chaste

Personality: Ibrahim is a noble and virtuous soul who emphasizes a lifestyle of chivalry and valor. The rough circumstances of his early life have made him feel he has a debt owed to his goddess, his saviors, and life itself, and he lives trying to repay that debt by being honorable in all things. He is as compassionate as he is strong and tries to help others find strength in a cruel universe, even when he cannot find strength himself. Ultimately, as strong as he is, he can only barely sustain the weight of his self-inflicted burden, frequently drawing close to breaking mentally from the tasks he undertakes.

Biography: Ibrahim’s parents died at a very early age, and he has little memory of them apart from isolated moments. He remembers little of the conflict that killed them, only that it was just another instance of unrest and violence in Abalos’s long and troubled history. After this period of chaos, Ibrahim was left alone, lost and forced to forage for himself, unable to survive… if not for the kindness of others.

The Temple of Everlasting Dawn found the orphan and inducted him into their order, fed him, clothed him, and gave him the name he goes by today. Under their careful guidance, he was trained in the Temple’s ways and learned of their history, how they had come together thousands of years in the past to enforce law and order on Abalos, to be a sword for good kings and a shield against tyrants, and to provide a beacon of light to those lost in darkness. When the Federation came, the Temple could not decide whether to support them or resist them and had split several-fold. Today, they are but a shadow of their former glory, and the few that fill their numbers hold onto lost glory as it slips through their fingers like smoke.

Ibrahim watched those who he now considered fathers and brothers with close attention. He observed their fervor, how righteously they clung to the code that had defined them so long, how hard they fought to defend even one person from the cruel clutches of injustice. As noble as their goals were, many of them were old men more concerned with preserving the dying candlelight of the past’s victories rather than creating new blazes of chivalrous valor. Ibrahim resolved himself to restoring the honor and glory of past ages and inspiring the galaxy once again with tales of the Templars of Everlasting Dawn.

Over the next several years, Ibrahim forged his own armor and weapon and travelled the surface of Abalos, helping those in need and fighting despots and vagabonds. Even still, the once noble reputation of the Temple seemingly could not be restored, as even his actions were not enough to drive away the gloom of despair from Abalos. When the Soul Regiment was being reformed, Ibrahim received an invitation to join, and was surprised that the Federation had heard of his reputation. However, despite recognizing the opportunity to travel the galaxy and spread chivalry beyond the atmosphere of Abalos, he felt he could not condone the Federation’s tyranny and ultimately decided to remain on Abalos.

Three Biggest Strengths:
1. Ibrahim has all the positive traits of knightly virtue- honor, valor, determination, etc.
2. He’s a supportive person and a loyal friend, making him an easy people person.
3. He’s trained extensively in melee combat, making him an above-average fighter even without a lacrima weapon.

Three Biggest Weaknesses:
1. Ibrahim’s honor code is ancient and, at times, dogmatic, which could bring him into conflict with both his allies and the world at large.
2. He has a tendency to take other people’s problems onto himself, frequently overburdening himself with such worries.
3. He is unfamiliar with the world outside Abalos, only reading about it in ancient books. He is unfamiliar with many things, and even outright scared of some.

Weapons: A steel-forged broadsword that he crafted himself, regularly sharpened and well-maintained.
His armor has a built-in grenade launcher mounted on the shoulder, though it is only single-use.

Soulblade [Applications Thread] - Page 4 Cbad661e80e3ef1249d41b5f680e4567
Height is roughly 5'8"

Home World: The Freeman Colonies

Occupation: Bounty Hunter, Career Criminal

Sexuality: It varies

Personality: Wild, carefree, frivolous, dangerous. These words are all accurate descriptions for Alexis, a career criminal who’s only looking out for number one. Her ultimate desires are wealth and good times, and she only wants the former as a means to acquire the latter. While her off-kilter and often childish antics can be somewhat entertaining, they are counteracted by her impulsive, careless, ruthless, and possessive attitude, generally making her a very unpleasant person.

Biography: The Freeman Colonies are a group of communal landowners on the small distant moon of Araxi, which orbits the gas giant Orbula Major just outside of Federation space. They were established 100 years ago by Amos Loman, a humble baker seeking to avoid government overreach from the Federation, and gradually grew into a small but noteworthy astropolitical entity by attracting free spirits who sought nothing more than to be their own masters.

Alexis’s childhood was not unusual for a young girl growing up in the Colonies, the third born out of eight siblings. The Tyrell Family owned a large, rural parcel of land, and Alexis learned many survival skills in her youth to foster a sense of rugged independence. However, while her siblings went into such trades as woodworking or cattle ranching, Alexis- notoriously- hated being told what to do, perhaps even more so than colony founder Loman. The expectation that she would enter a field that was productive and give back to the community was quite frankly absurd, and once she had acquired what she considered to be an acceptable level of schooling, she immediately began a series of petty thefts until she had enough money to go off-world… at which point, she started doing the same thing, but on other planets.

Alexis took to the criminal life like a fish takes to water. She quickly adjusted to acting above the law and made something of a name for herself in the underworld. Of course, her insistence that the galaxy was an unconquered frontier was quickly challenged by the existence by the existence of governments, borders, and law enforcement. Realizing that she would need to engage in some somewhat legitimate pursuits if she wanted to continue living the high life, she took up the mantle of a bounty hunter and started assisting the Federation in arresting poor saps who resorted to stealing bread to survive. She just had to hope that nobody would ever realize that the face on one of the posters was the same as one of the collectors.

Three Biggest Strengths:
1. Alexis is skilled in the art of shooting and is proficient with most forms of ranged weapons.
2. She’s cunning and crafty, capable of playing people against each other and misleading others to her intentions.
3. She was raised on a backwater planet and is more than capable of taking care of herself in the wild.

Three Biggest Weaknesses:
1. Alexis is an impulse thinker and rarely gives much planning to her actions before carrying them out.
2. While adept in street smarts, she possesses little in the way of book smarts and likewise is still learning about the world outside of the Colonies.
3. Alexis has an unpleasant personality and would make few friends outside of those who are entertained by her antics and general dumbassery.

Weapons: Alexis is able to use just about any basic laser weapon, but carries a rusted revolver from her home in the Freeman Colonies at all times.
