Forum Bug

Hi all,

We're aware of a peculiar forum glitch that's causing some subforums to be locked.

Due to the lateness at this time, it might be a while before the glitch can be remedied, because despite my best efforts and as far as I can tell, everything seems to be working fine admin-side. It may have …

*wipes sweat from brow* Whew, political correctness is a lot of hard work. But it has to be done.

ANYWAYS, we did it - we (almost) survived 2016 which, I think we can all agree, was pretty damn terrible in many ways.

Regardless, it was a good year on the forums - we've met some new faces, set out …

Left Behind

Post by Sentinel on Fri Oct 23, 2015 6:39 pm

So, I've only had one RPG be successful, and that was Whodunnit. The premise behind Whodunnit was a group of people getting picked off one-by-one by a relentless murderer, who was among them. Tons of people really liked the idea - so much that I tried to do it again. Twice.

And, of course, my commitment levels dropped to the negatives.

I've been reminiscing over the Whodunnit days... it was really awesome, having the survival of your characters be left up to the decisions of one. Having the sting of the reveal at the end made it so much more better. I can see why many of you enjoyed it.

Then I started thinking about the HG series - how survival depended on the character as well as trusting others.

For some reason, RPGs like Whodunnit and HG fascinate me. The problem with running one, however, is that they require a lot of work - planning, coordinating, etc. That's time that I don't really have to spare. Yet I wanted to have that awesome experience, of the one-by-one elimination of the Whodunnit RPG, combined with the social atmosphere of the Hunger Games series. And I think I might have found a nice little combination for those - with a fantasy twist for those of us who enjoy magic and such.

I call it "Left Behind."

The premise is quite simple - a large band of adventurers (magicians, swordsmen, archers, soldiers, what-have-you) are on a quest to destroy a magical ruler and rightfully claim the throne. But there's one problem - only a single person can lay claim to it. Everyone else will be dead.

But this isn't any Battle Royale scenario. No, the only way to get past the guards of the tyrant is through a secret passageway - a mega-deadly, fatal Wipeout course of traps, puzzles, and more. Some of them are quite simple. Others are far more tasking, even unfair.

But in order to progress, one person has to die. And it may be ultimately up to the fates (read: RNG) or fellow adventurers to determine who will be spared. There's no evil Game Masters, nor psychotic killers in this world. You're all on your own.

For this RPG, I will allow a minimum of 16 characters (2 max for each RPer) and a maximum of 24 characters. In addition, I'll allow something I can't believe I didn't think of in the past - YOU guys get to choose the challenges. Make them as deadly as you can think of, or tragic, or gut-burstingly hilarious. Keep in mind that magic will be an element to your disposal, both for traps and for characters. Be creative! (Green is not a creative color, though. Keep that in mind.)

This isn't exactly a reservations thread, or any "official" thing. I just want to see what you guys thought of this idea. I know commitment isn't my strong suit. Like, at all. It's my weak suit, if anything. But I feel like this is an RPG that can accommodate for a lot of IRL stuff, and still be really fun. So let me know what you think! If there's enough consensus, I'll begin working on the OP. Thanks!

That name, though. At first, I was like, Adrian's making a roleplay about the Rapture?

But this is an interesting idea. I've never been in any of the Whodunnits or Hunger Games, so it'll be something different for me. I'll be considering it!

*shudders* It came out around this time too. Acca-awkward. Might change it anyways.

But yay! I do hope you join, Whodunnit and HG were awesome.

Oh good. I'll admit, since the HG main series ended I've kind of missed playing in the "nearly everyone here will die" PvP genre. Sign me the hell up. Also, Adrian, I can ask Deirdre from Central if she has any tips for running a game like this, since she was basically both the longest-running and most successful of the HG gamerunners. Can't guarantee she'll have anything, but I can ask.

I really love the idea of this. I miss the intensity of the HG arena where your character might die at any given moment. This sounds amazing, I'm in!
And yeah, if you need any help as far as those things go, you can always ask me for help too. I didn't run the arena threads as long, but I was involved in it since the beginning. I've learned some stuff about slaughtering characters xD

I'd definitely consider joining. I very much enjoyed that first Whodunnit RPG ^___^. I'd love to see an OP to see more about what you had in mind for it.

Smile Awesome. And Omni, that would be nice.

Now that Michael mentions it, there may be some surprises I might throw in, just to keep people on their toes. Again, if any of you have suggestions, let me know.
