Powers: Her ability to negate the Traits of other Trait Bearers is at times tenuous: She’s discovered through subtle trial and error that she can only ever activate her powers when she truly has reached a state of complete calm. I’ve been drawing her but until such time as I am satisfied, this description will have to suffice:

A squarish face with prominent cheekbones; a wide flat nose; angular, upturned black eyes; a wide, rounded chin; voluptuous lips; a high brow with thin, tapering eyebrows; black hair that comes in ringlets, typically bound in double french braids; a wide forehead; dark brown skin; a thick, chubby body with strong arms and shoulders; thick thighs; large feet. Takes no form of traditional beauty, that’s for sure.

Always wearing sweaters, even if it’s not very practical. Boots, pants, a sword-belt, and gloves. Roughly 5’ 7”.

Personality:
Extremely stable and restrained, Adlais is a woman who keeps herself thoroughly under wraps. True feelings are thoroughly pushed away in favor of other inclinations, predominantly her maternal tendencies. She has no strong ego drive that require her to declare or flaunt herself in any manner. Some of this stems from confidence, a good portion of it is apathy, and the remainder is her profound belief that she is irrelevant.

A quiet, compassionate love of people leads her to be in the service of others, typically in protection capacities, although she also lends herself out as a listening ear to the distressed or hurting. Dedicated to caring for others, believes the most important part of life is the people she encounters. Gentle and loving, but not without discretion. Doesn’t chase after every hurting person she encounters, choosing selectively instead the people who she believes would benefit from her. Has a healthy sense of boundaries and space.

She’s not a damaged individual, but the reality is that in restraining her emotions/personality so much, she’s created a lot of lowkey problems for herself. For example, her dominating belief that other people matter but she doesn’t makes it even easier for her to put herself in dangerous places, all for the sake of someone other than herself.

Bio:
Born in Avaditas on an icy Ver morning, Adlais was brought into the world of the Pyes, a well off family of produce merchants. With two older sisters to experience life before her, Adlais quickly realized how little Avaditas had to offer in terms of personal fulfillment. Her ambitions were not large, but the perpetual fear that came with their tenuous reality (please the government lest they come to harm you) was unsatisfying. Her search for a better life began early.

Her interest in the military initially came with a desire for autonomy. Being able to defend herself meant she needed no one to protect her, and freedom from harm would aid her in her quest for something more than a dingy life stuck in Avaditas. Her self-controlled nature lent her discipline, and much to the discomfort of her parents, her dedicated, determined work landed her a job as a Private, stationed at Cruore.

It was in her time at Cruore that she discovered her Restraint Trait. It was a tricky, subtle thing, rarely trigger-able by herself. But caught in a disagreement with an Officer, a well known abuser of his Greed Trait, in a moment of forced calm Adlais suddenly discovered that his speech had lost all of it’s usual persuasive qualities. Having been used to being manipulated by the Greed Trait, the sudden respite was unexpected and frightening. But upon experimenting with it more, Adlais began to realize what it was. Now she seeks quietly for Anaphora’s Redemption, lest someone else discover what she can do…

Notable Relationships:
Her older sisters gave her a source of warmth, comfort, and advice in her growing up years with them. Getting to watch them try to make good lives for themselves in Avaditas led Adlais to realize how little chances there were for true success, locked as they were in the working class. They’re very concerned for their little sister, and they exchange letters whenever possible.
Her parents are proud of her ambition but believe her gentle spirit belongs anywhere but in danger. And while they’ve also observed her careful, sensible nature, they still fear for her safety ardently.

Weapon of Choice: Her sword, which she can use competently. Her personality lends her to making good, tactical decisions while in danger.

Strengths: Has a lot of people patience; you’re not likely to upset her about … anything; easy to get along with; that dry sense of humor though; no nonsense, doesn’t waste time beating around the bush, especially if it’s pointless.

Weaknesses: While she’s fairly logical and sensible, sometimes that self-destructive apathy overpowers reason and instead of realizing, “Oh, I should get out of danger because that makes sense,” it becomes, “Eh. It doesn’t matter.” Getting out of her comfort zone makes her uncomfortable and less likely to take action. A bit too slow to give information or to feel truly comfortable with other people. Very calculated.

Fun Facts:
- Very good with little kids.
- Afraid of snakes and spiders.
- Has a very dry sense of humor that often comes out as sass. Will tell you if you’re being stupid.

Appearance:
Haven’t figured out how to draw her yet, so:

Guant, short, pretty face; sunken, rounded brown eyes; small button nose; pouty, rosebud lips that are ragged from her chewing on them; curved eyebrows; thin, wiry arms and legs; little hands with small fingernails, also ragged from being chewed on; cool-toned tan skin; long, ratty brown hair.

A solid 5’2”, prefers skirts, tights, boots, loose t-shirts, leather jackets, and whatever necklaces she can find.  Most of her clothing is ratty and dirty.  She wears a belt that holds the sheath for her knife.

Personality:
Scarred, toughened, and embittered, the naturally sweet and bubbly personality of Eryl has been hardened by trial and despair.  She’s become too cautious, too careful to really trust anyone.  And yet she’s still chasing after her dreams.  While spiteful and hateful, there’s no denying Eryl’s underlying beliefs: that every person is valuable and good and loveable.  It’s a paradox: her hate and her love are a jumbled mess of incompatibility.  She was a person who should have never been born in Acritudo.  These days, her personal beliefs are what sustains her, and her stubbornness in following her heart will push her to any length to achieve them.  And while she’s naturally drawn to help others, if helping another person conflicts with her values, values win, hands down.  She will not compromise her values, beliefs, dreams, or ideas in order to please someone else.   On top of that, she’s very sympathetic but not very empathetic.

Necessity has made her self-sufficient but deep inside she’s still vulnerable and weak.  Very emotional and easily butthurt, she’s not a very strong person. Words are very important to her and she values the opinions of her, often listening to what people say about her to gauge her worth.  She may be toughened, but she’s still very insecure.

She’s stupidly loving, and is quick to wince at the pain of anyone, even if they had tried to or would try to harm her.  Despite her roughened edges, Eryl still keeps a sensitive heart, and even the years of trying to keep herself from crying out at the brutality she witnessed as a child never silenced her compassion.
Personality Type: INFP, 4w5

Bio:
Born the child of an Acritudian prostitute, Eryl quickly discovered the bitter conditions of Acritudo’s lower class.  Her childhood was rough and unpleasant and offered little reward for a little girl with big dreams and an even bigger heart.  Her mother, somewhat bitter over her pregnancy with Eryl, was frequently dismissive of Eryl’s hopes for a better life, instead preferring to slog her way through existence.  This was very disheartening, but that persistent dream that maybe there was something out there that could feel better and sweeter than the hellish Acritudo persisted.

Schooling was horrific and scarring.  The torture methods, the intense cruelty in the tyranny of her country’s government were too much for Eryl, who could barely keep herself from crying on a daily basis.  Within a very short time, her peers and teachers grew malicious to her unorthodox reactions to the pain of others -- and it was just as shortly that Eryl realized that being herself was not an option in this place.  So she learned to shut up and shut it down.  The endless images of brutal abuse, unthinkable sadism, and horrifying barbarity slowly became old news to her, and she taught herself to stop reacting.

Upon completing her schooling at 13 and failing to qualify for the military, the government issued her the same job as her mother: prostitution.  But she’d witnessed enough and experienced enough of it to realize that it was not something she wanted.  And so leaving her mother behind, Eryl ran away.

It’s been three years of hiding, fleeing, and thievery, and now she has landed herself in Raquor.  She’s a hardened, toughened girl running on bitter hope.  She’s heard of Anaphora’s Redemption, and the possibility for a better life that it brings.  She knows she has no Trait to give them, but she’s desperate for a chance, and will do anything to make it into their ranks...

Notable Relationships:
Her mother.  While their relationship was stifled, Eryl legitimately loves her mom and admired her tolerance for a crappy life.  She knows her mom could have aborted her while in the womb like many other prostitutes would have, but yet her mom didn’t -- for this, Eryl thanks her mother for life twice as much.

Weapon of Choice:  
She’s got a jagged knife that she keeps on her person.  She has no training but has learned to be aggressive enough that people will leave her alone.
Strengths: The best way to destroy Eryl would be to break her heart -- but she’s a very difficult person to truly break.  Damage her body, yes, but her soul?  She’s the classic Emily Dickinson poem, “Hope is a thing with feathers”.  Beyond this, she’s legitimately loving, though it may take a while to unearth …
Weaknesses: Her very emotional way of solving problems can be both unorthodox and stupid.  But because she’s so stubborn about following her own heart, trying to get her to see another, more logical path may be a struggle.  She’s also small and fairly weak.  

Fun Facts:
- She’s anxiety prone, and tends to quietly break whatever’s near her to relieve stress; in absence of breakable objects she either picks at her fingers or chews her lips.
- She loves baby animals and finds them soothing.
- She has a natural fear of men.  Also dogs.
- Eryl just really needs a lot of positive social interactions, she’s not inclined to be sad or bitter or angry or hateful -- she’s been largely affected by her situation.
- Another aesthetic!

He’s lean but fairly well built.  He probably stands at … oh … 5’11” - 6’0”.

Personality:
Ludis is a smooth, suave, sweet-talking charmer.  Whether or not the easy pleasant demeanor is faked is unknown.  On one hand, it really isn’t, but on the other -- he’d act however he needed to get what he wants.  He can create any personality that he needs, and since people generally like the warm, approachable type, that’s what he becomes.

He is capable of great civil chivalry -- and just as capable of stabbing you in the back with a smile.  He’s a tricky one, that’s for sure.  A skilled liar, knows how to play to the feelings of others.  A little nostalgic, gets kind of misty eyed when observing things that remind him of his childhood or family.

Came out of the Academy on a strong note but not without drawbacks.  Hallucinates on occasion, hearing voices in his head or that of others, has frequent, reoccurring nightmares of grisly murders, be that of his family or himself.  Rather lonely, occasionally scared of his future and what he’s become.  Has a moral side that he squashes in favor of pursuing his dreams of power and enjoying the feeling of control.

Personality Type: ESFJ, 3w4

Bio:
Born to a pair of Acritudian guards, Ludis quickly found himself in a place of status and comfort.  He hadn’t chosen this life, obviously, but finding himself in an advantageous position -- and quickly realizing there were others below him who suffered a life much more horrible than his -- he sought to capitalize on it as much as possible.

His parents were harsh and strained, seeking to bring their son as many as advantages as they could, while also expecting him to make all their hard work worth it.  It was as a young child that he learned to create personas, becoming whatever it was his parents wanted so that he could earn their favor.  He pushed through his schoolwork, studied hard, knew every answer perfectly, and did everything in his power to make sure he could have every ounce of power available to him.  In power there was control.  In control, he could have everything he desired.  And he desired much.  Very, very much.

With careful planning and exposure to cruelty of countless kinds, his parents tried to instill in him the Cruelty Trait so he could take not only their places but rise above them.  They showed him pain, hoping that he would want to create it.  He saw pain, and the power that could instill it in another person.  He wanted that power.

And so it was to their dismay that he could trick them, now.  The lies slid off their lips and they believed him.  He watched them fumble in confusion -- initially a frightening occasion, to watch his parents lose control like that.  And then it was liberating.  If he could sway his hard hearted parents to do whatever he wanted, then the rest were merely pawns in his game.  In a land so full of Cruelty, who knew what a little Greed could do?

An Academy and several years of taxing, mentally degrading conditions later, Ludis emerged a somewhat psychologically damaged and distinctly ruthless individual.  He secured a position as a military officer and bided his time, occasionally killing off overly competitive peers to retain his safety and arise higher in the ranks.

Now caught under the hated military leadership of Generals Wakeman and Olar, Ludis’ desire for power is getting a little … antsy…  Who’s going to notice a few bodies though, right?

Notable Relationships:
His parents.  He considers them the source of every good thing he has and keeps them well protected and financed despite his recurring manipulation of them.  Visits with fair frequency, enjoying the company of his parents.  His father’s unadulterated affection for him, though usually shown in gruff, caustic ways, gets him every time.

His little sister.  She only lasted for a short time, till she was about 5-6, but she was charming and inspiring and he loved her.

Weapon of Choice: A small pistol that he keeps on him always.
Strengths: Sly, cleverly manipulative.  A smart cookie.  Competent and adaptable enough to do what he needs to make up for whatever weaknesses he has.  Highly competent memory, remembers little details accurately.  Charming.  Can find ways to get along with anyone, regardless of what that requires.  Not afraid to get his hands dirty.
Weaknesses: Despite his clever facades, Ludis really isn’t psychologically sound or secure.  He’s a little desperate for honest love and affection, and lowkey insecure.  While most of his mind is dedicated to plans for dominance and superiority, he may not be able to stay the game to an offer more attractive and deeply meaningful.  At the same time he may reject things that could help him, just to stick with his original plans, even if they’re all going to heck.  He doesn’t want to give up any kind of power he has over himself.

Fun Facts:
- Ludis is a sort of lustful, manipulative individual.  Women, please watch out.
- But on the other hand, don’t…?  Who knows, maybe the chivalry is real.
- He loves dogs, and has a special place in his heart for kittens.
- He hates being sick and hates being taken care of because it makes him feel weak and powerless.
- He had a younger sister who died at a young age from a passing sickness.
- His parents know he hallucinates and try to pass on him illegal medicines they keep finding to try and help him stop having them.
- What's that, another aesthetic?

She’s got a seemingly insatiable urge (an obsession, really) to be the best at anything and everything, and it fuels her goals and passions, hurdling her over obstacles and onward, pushing her forward long after she should have stopped. Quick to move herself onto her next task, her ambition is sharp and stubborn. Hard-pressed by her tightly-wound psyche to appear tough, hardworking, and invincible, she frequently comes off as bratty and unnecessarily argumentative. Besides the uncalled for aggression and anger, her kinesthetic skills are prime and her mind fast, though it s-s-st-stu-stutters a bit on occasion.

Her aggression, however, is forced. In a feat of extreme stubbornness, she keeps herself locked in this hostile psychological state as a defense mechanism against the copious amount of fear that lives deep within herself. Rather than be afraid and paralyzed in it (what is more abhorrent to her -- the fear or the paralysis -- is hard to say), Cei ensures that she is always, always antagonistic. She’s willing to sacrifice support and love from others in order to keep her protection mechanism untouched and her insecurities corked and bottled. How long she can keep this state is unknown, perhaps indefinite. With her, introspection, self awareness, and intrapersonal skills are childishly stilted.

Beyond the anger issues, Cei is relatively easy to be around, being extroverted, loud, and bouncy with too much energy. She’s always ready for an adventure of any kind, regardless of where it should go or who it involves. Her hardcore killer mode may make her seem impassible and untouchable, but she is not inherently evil by any means.

Bio:
Cei was born to Pawl and Awydd Wynne, Aspernori peasants. Being the second surviving child of three with little hope for prospect and fortune, she quickly learned that survival required a significant amount of adaption and taking every chance she had. Her frustration quickly started in school: while she was good with her hands and good at brawling, she couldn't absorb and understand the academics well enough to keep up with her classmates.

This frustration soon escalated into hatred of those who could keep up so easily and at the entire school system, then really escalated into Hate. After an unfortunate incident with a classmate she unintentionally tortured, she was taken away to be tested. She lacked precision and control but her ability to induce madness and general agony was excellent. They no longer required of her further academia and instead put her to work destroying minds. Watching others squirm under their fear of her was relieving to her: she too was constantly afraid, and seeing someone not her suffer from it was soothing.

But despite her strong Trait she lacked in the other areas they required, and eventually they sent her away and married her to another Hate Bearer to have children and continue the line. Her failure to meet their standards crushed her, however, and in her despair and fear of worthlessness she lost her Hate. Traitless, she was sent away from her stud husband to rejoin her lower class family.

Time passed and she fell into a depressed boredom that slowly turned into anger at her situation. She was disgusted with her own fear and despair and she could not stand it a moment longer, so she rebuilt her psyche from the bottom up and forced herself to forget all her fears and insecurities, schooling herself that she was not a person capable of feeling fear.

One day while making dinner, she cut herself, only to discover it had already healed. She felt hungry, ravenous. Hushed in rapt horror-curiosity, she cut herself open again -- and watched as it sealed itself cleanly.

Recognizing she was in danger, Cei grabbed sufficient supplies and fled to Last North, where she stayed for some time. She found to her surprise that the fatal cold could not kill her, and furthermore she discovered that her previously manageable hunger was now insatiable. She stuffed her face frequently to compensate.

With too much time to think, Cei realized that not only did she despise her government and its leaders, but that she was also completely ready to kill them all for making her so miserable and -- not afraid. She was never afraid. So when the Northwardens rejoined in the winter of 9994 and she recognized them as great warriors, she asked them if they would help her kill the Warlord. When they refused, she decided she'd do it her own. By this time she believed herself immortal and unable to be harmed. And as soon as she made her way south to Mars, she tried to assassinate the Warlord.

The assassination attempt failed. But when the guards discovered they could not kill her, the Warlord ordered her to be dragged down to the catacombs and be shut up in a lightless, escapeless cell.

It was a pit in the ground where bland food was served twice a day, a chamber pot in the corner, and seven feet by seven feet by seven feet of perfectly smooth concrete. Pitch black. No bed. After several days of this isolation, she was let out and dragged to a brightly lit operating room. They strapped her down tightly, made sure she was thoroughly bound, and with a series of scalpels, knives, and saws, they cut off her hands. Her screams filled the room and beyond.

It quickly became a game: how much could they cut off and how long would it take to grow back. After cutting her up or cutting her apart, her torturers would sit and take notes, occasionally prodding her to get a better view of her body’s rapid regeneration. After she had regenerated herself back into wholeness, they dragged her back to her cell, shut the door, and left her in the darkness to shudder in agony.

Her anger was insatiable, and her unwillingness to let herself be so weak for so long had gotten to her, and one day upon letting her out she slaughtered several before being taken again by them. They impaled her for that one. Feeding, darkness, feeding, darkness -- the cycle repeated only to be interrupted by more torture -- and then back again it went. It was started to crack her.

Finally, she decided she would no longer play with their games. She had learned as much about herself as her torturers: she relied on food to be able to keep playing this game, but despite the rigorous training regime she tried to impose on herself there in the darkness, the meager amount of food was unsatisfying and was slowly killing herself. Upon her next torture session she gave them an option: feed her in far larger quantities or she would refuse to eat altogether, and in doing so starve herself to death.

The food they gave her from then on wasn’t great but … she watched herself gain weight back rapidly -- and even their destruction of her was lessening the toll on her hunger. Yet the lunatic cycle did not cease.

Then as Aestas of 9995 rolled around and the rumbles of revolution started to sweep across the continents, the door to her cell opened with a proposition.

Cei Wynne now takes her place as the Warlord’s unkillable, maniacal assassin.

Notable Relationships:
Herself. At times, her extended psychological trauma manifests as something near multiple personality disorder. She refuses to let her fears of pain and worthlessness come through, instead forcibly repressing it. And in her less stable moments, the split is as if there were two different women inside her head.

Jayce Guerre. Her first attempt on his life will not be her last. While she’s completely ready to bide her time and follow his commands, she is single-mindedly determined to ensure his death. Preferably in the most brutal way possible. The people who tortured her also have an assured place on her kill list.

Weapon of Choice:
She’ll use anything nearby, and does not shy away from using her body as a weapon. Carries two stilettos on her and another knife in her boot.

Strengths:
Always up for a challenge, impossibilities are only problems that need a little more elbow grease. Acts as if nothing frightens her, will not hesitate to get in the thick of danger for the sake of a goal. Will stay with anyone that has earned her affection regardless of drawbacks. A thorough and vicious kicker of ass. Analytical, practical, and stubborn as they come.

Weaknesses:
Her stubbornness and lack of people skills make her annoying, quick to start argument and conflict. Her good side may be also hard to see. In fact, to anyone without a solid dose of goodwill and patience, she might be frankly unlikable. She’s also so locked in her intent to kill the Warlord that she may end up ignoring the people around her. Affection and compassion is also foreign to her, she struggles to recognize it when it happens.

Fun Facts:
- Cei is too off putting to seem like it, but she actually enjoys snuggling.
- She’s childishly clingy, but again -- doesn’t seem like it.
- She's full of pain and fear but covers it up with ass-kicking.
- She loves competitive board games.
- She's very fidgety and is always playing with her hands. She's not good at sitting still.
- Falling in love would probably be fatal for her.
- I believe that's a -- no it can't be -- an aesthetic!
