Hi all,

We're aware of a peculiar forum glitch that's causing some subforums to be locked.

Due to the lateness at this time, it might be a while before the glitch can be remedied, because despite my best efforts and as far as I can tell, everything seems to be working fine admin-side. It may have …

ANYWAYS, we did it - we (almost) survived 2016 which, I think we can all agree, was pretty damn terrible in many ways.

Infinity's Row: Character themes!

Post by Hime on Tue Oct 14, 2014 10:27 pm

Post a song that best describes your IR character(s) here! Just thought it'd be something a little fun to do. Razz Post the lyrics if you want... Or don't. Either way is fine. ENJOY YOURSELVES~!

Yuffie Abatan-Bliss

Lyric analysis:
Maybe I could be the one they adore
That could be infatuation
It's where I'm from that lets them think I'm a whore
I'm an educated virgin

Yuffie struggles immensely with self-image -- both how she views HERSELF and how others view her. Because of her mistakes, people may gain the wrong idea of what she REALLY is. She desires to be seen as good, which is something her life had never been. Because of her tendencies to love unconditionally, she's hurt often and put down.

Sleepwalker, don't be shy
Now don't open your eyes tonight
You'll be the one that defends my life
While I'm dead asleep dreamin'

Yuffie's past consisted of being reclusive and shutting out all of the bad things that had happened in her childhood. Because many of the violent incidents occurred at night, she would always tell herself to keep sleeping and to not open her eyes. Therefore, the "sleepwalker" mentioned in the song is herself. She always had faith in her father to protect her as she was vulnerable in sleep, which he did.

Cupid, don't draw back your bow
Sam Cooke didn't know what I know
I'll never be your valentine
The sleepwalker in me
And God only know that I've tried

Afraid of falling in love and being savvy of things that other people know little of are more characteristics of Yuffie. She hates pushing people away, yet she does it anyway. She often feels insufficient and that people don't see her strength for what it really is.

Let me in, let me drown or learn how to swim
Just don't leave me at the window
I could be the one to be your next best friend
You may need someone to hold you

Being left hanging is one of Yuffie's biggest fears. She'll want direct answers or no answers at all. She'd either want to be killed or involved, not left to watch people do everything while she waits on the sidelines. Yuffie is loyal and loving, which makes her sympathetic and great to go to for profound comfort.

Sleepwalker, take this knife
You may see someone tonight
You'd be the one that saves my life
When I'm dead asleep dreamin'

At one point in her life, things got extremely violent for Yuffie. From then on, she would go to bed fearing not only for her life, but her dad's. She'd pray for her dad to protect himself against her mom and also protect her while she was asleep.

Cupid, don't draw back your bow
Sam Cooke didn't know what I know
I'll never be your valentine
The sleepwalker in me
And God only know that I've tried

I'm in your movie and everyone looks sad
But I can hear you, your voice, the laughtrack
But you never saw my best scene
The one where I sleep
Sleepwalk into your dreams

Yuffie despises seeing someone she loves upset, because that was her entire life before the Row accepted her. Her mission was to make everyone happy, even if it meant losing herself. However, she often feels as though people wouldn't do the same for her, which is a concept her mother made her believe. Yuffie believed that since the person who was supposed to love her most DIDN'T love her and sacrifice for her, nobody EVER would.

Now, sleepwalker, what's my line
It's only a matter of time
Until I learn to open up my eyes
When I'm dead asleep dreamin'

Now, she's struggling with finding herself, and she's determined to do so. No longer allowing people's views to affect her, Yuffie is well on her way to growing up fully and understanding what life truly means and her role in it all.

Cupid, don't draw back your bow
Sam Cooke didn't know what I know
I'll never be your valentine
The sleepwalker in me

Now, the sleepwalker in me
Now, the sleepwalker in me
And God only know that I've tried

That took a supa long time Shocked I'll post the rest of my characters' lyrics later in the week. I can't wait to see all of yours!!!!

Jinx Loca

It explains itself, honestly. Jinx is insane.

Isis Rhion

Lyric Analysis:

These lyrics are the story of Isis and her scythe, Eclipse.

In the dusty basement where we met
May you surprised me so much
Because you’re talking now
I gotta find the truth from many fights
But I’m all alone
You’re the only one who can help me out
We’ll be as one
Isis is basically all alone, with her mother being the only close relative left, and now she's even separated from her. All she has left is Eclipse.

We’re ready to fight
Look over there
They try to kill us for stars
Our bond has got much stronger than before
Isis relies completely on Eclipse; it is her only weapon, and will always be her only weapon.

<Chorus>
*Don’t lose your way in your mind
We have to be as one
Don’t be afraid my sweetheart
This is the way to be more strong
Harbor my deep secret
It makes me so blue
Run through this game before my body is dry
Isis and Eclipse are the only ones that know her secret, and what she aims to accomplish.

<Rap>
So it seems there’s no other choice
But to go all out
Stay with me and let’s stand out
and outshine those trying to get our stars now
All we have to do is figure out how strong we are
and what it takes to stay alive
Sync and learn what we can do to take ‘em down
It’s revenge and survive
For now, we know in part
And you can feel my heart
So help me to stay focused so I don’t fall apart
I wanna be complete
It’s not in me to retreat
I could lose on my own so I really need you with me
If Eclipse had a voice, this would be his response to Isis.

I gotta find out who killed my dad
I hear the voice of you in my mind
I gotta find out who killed my dad
I hear the voice of you in my mind so
This part of the song literally fits with Isis's backstory.

<Rap>
My blood is pumping
I’m ready to fight when you are
Let’s let no one break the bond that is ours
Show them what it means to be a shining star
You have my body
Let’s fight as one
Again, this is Eclipse speaking to Isis.

Can’t move my feet in the dark
I don’t wanna be all alone
Can’t feel the heat in my blood
Do you remember what he said
Isis talking about how her quest to get revenge may be for the worse, but also remembering her father.

*Repeat chorus

<Rap>
I really need you with me
Help me to stay focused
I wanna be complete
Fight as one with me
Let’s take ‘em down
Be a shining star
You have my body
I’m ready to fight when you are
Eclipse convinces Isis what she is doing is right. They must fight to honor her father's memory, or else Isis may just turn into a mass murderer due to the grief she holds inside, but doesn't show to the world.

Re: Infinity's Row: Character themes!

Post by Sentinel on Tue Oct 14, 2014 11:50 pm

OK, so I gave Aidec 2 themes: one with lyrics, and one without. I'm going to post the one with lyrics too.

Aidec Farenart

Lyrical Analysis:
I'm a puppet on a string
Tracy Island, time-traveling diamond
Could've shaped heartaches
Come to find ya fall in some velvet morning
Years too late
She's a silver lining lone ranger riding
Through an open space
In my mind when she's not right there beside me

Aidec has struggled with being pushed aside by many people in life, and continues to reflect on that even today. He has fallen in love with several people over the year, but instead of breaking up with them, tragedy seems to strike - therefore, he is not the creator of heartaches, but rather the sufferer. The other person being referenced is Yuffie, who Aidec met very early in the series. And though it may not seem that way, Yuffie is on his mind a lot of the time.

I go crazy 'cause here isn't where I wanna be
And satisfaction feels like a distant memory
And I can't help myself,
All I wanna hear her say is "Are you mine?"

Though Aidec enjoys the Row, he still feels uncomfortable in his position, especially since so much has changed for him. Even though Yuffie has said it so many times, he still feels a need for companionship.

Are you mine?
Are you mine?
Are you mine?

I guess what I'm trying to say is I need the deep end
Keep imagining meeting, wished away entire lifetimes
Unfair we're not somewhere misbehaving for days
Great escape lost track of time and space
She's a silver lining climbing on my desire

Due to Aidec's pride, he tends to get sidetracked by his desires and aspirations, and doesn't really seem to understand the effect he has on people. Despite the positive windfall he has had (getting his parents back, being pardoned by the govt), he seems to cast that aside and continue to focus on the issues he has currently.

And I go crazy 'cause here isn't where I wanna be
And satisfaction feels like a distant memory
And I can't help myself,
All I wanna hear her say is "Are you mine? "

Well, are you mine? (Are you mine tomorrow?)
Are you mine? (Or just mine tonight?)
Are you mine? (Are you mine? Mine?)

And the thrill of the chase moves in mysterious ways
So in case I'm mistaken,
I just wanna hear you say you got me baby
Are you mine?

Ultimately, life seems to move fast for Aidec, so he continually needs clarification on what he has and what he doesn't have at the current point in time.

She's a silver lining lone ranger riding through an open space
In my mind when she's not right there beside me
And I go crazy cause here isn't where I wanna be
And satisfaction feels like a distant memory
And I can't help myself,
All I wanna hear her say is "Are you mine? "

Well, are you mine? (Are you mine tomorrow?)
Are you mine? (Or just mine tonight?)
Are you mine? (Are you mine tomorrow, or just mine tonight?)

Again, Aidec needs reassurance at this point in life. He has become less prideful than he was a year ago (and this new RPG will show that).

The next song is more orchestral, but it closely matches his entire life up to this point.

My other 2 characters are coming up.

Resh Archambault

lyric analysis:
This town is colder now, I think it's sick of us
It's time to make our move, I'm shakin' off the rust
I've got my heart set on anywhere but here
I'm staring down myself, counting up the years
Steady hands, just take the wheel...
And every glance is killing me
Time to make one last appeal for the life I lead

Growing up, Resh had always felt like a nuisance to everyone around him. He was hotheaded, wild, reckless, and ready to move on from Ald Ruhn, even when he was rather young. After joining the Row, Resh saw changes within himself -- for one, he became a more prominent leader. However, he still felt as though he lost control, and he would always feel like he'd depend on Aidec to lead the rest of the way when he felt insufficient. Despite this, he'd always go out with a bang.

Stop and stare
I think I'm moving but I go nowhere
Yeah I know that everyone gets scared
But I've become what I can't be, oh
Stop and stare
You start to wonder why you're here not there
And you'd give anything to get what's fair
But fair ain't what you really need
Oh, can you see what I see

Resh would sometimes look back and realize that his arrogance gets him nowhere, yet he'd be clueless on how to fix it. Though he understands that people have way worse lives than he does, Resh still believes that the role he has taken on is difficult and sometimes impossible to live up to. He'd often play the "that's unfair" card when things didn;t go as planned, but over time, he learned to accept the fact that life is brutally merciless.

They're tryin' to come back, all my senses push
Untie the weight bags, I never thought I could...
Steady feet, don't fail me now
I'm gonna run till you can't walk
But something pulls my focus out
And I'm standing down...

Resh feels as though he's under every possible pressure he could be under. Not only this, but he's extremely self-conscious and worried about what others think, adding to the burden. He's always push himself further than he'd believe he could go, which has shaped much of what he is today. However, something always ends up standing in the way and throwing him off track.

Stop and stare
I think I'm moving but I go nowhere
Yeah I know that everyone gets scared
But I've become what I can't be, oh
Stop and stare
You start to wonder why you're here not there
And you'd give anything to get what's fair
But fair ain't what you really need
Oh, You don't need...

What you need, what you need...

Stop and stare
I think I'm moving but I go nowhere
And I know that everyone gets scared
But I've become what I can't be
Oh, do you see what I see...

Everett di Romano

lyric analysis:
Things we lost to the flame
Things we'll never see again
All that we've amassed
Sits before us, shattered into ash

Everett's life can be described one pattern -- obtained, then brutally lost. This pattern began when Everett lost his mother at a young age, and his father proceeding to commit suicide shortly after. Through the course of his preteen years, Everett had gained quite a few parental figures, but soon lost them as well. Eventually, he gave up and turned to his own means of comfort and stability.

These are the things, the things we lost
The things we lost in the fire, fire, fire
These are the things, the things we lost
The things we lost in the fire, fire, fire

We sat and made a list
Of all the things that we have
Down the backs of table tops
Ticket stubs and your diaries I read them all one day

Everett isn't very reflective on most things, but he is about things that have impacted his life positively. Every one in a while, Everett will stop and give a moment of gratitude to the good things that found their way into his life, because there are so few.

When loneliness came and you were away
Oh they told me nothing new,
But I love to read the words you used
These are the things, the things we lost

Often times, Everett will think of his mother and read back on things she wrote to him when she was alive, but unable to see him due to the infectious disease. It doesn't pain him, but rather comforts him, because he enjoys hearing her voice within his head.

The things we lost in the fire, fire, fire
These are the things, the things we lost
The things we lost in the fire, fire, fire

I was the match and you were the rock
Maybe we started this fire
We sat apart and watched
All we had burned on the pyre

Everett is like a bomb, ready to explode at any minute. His main ignition is passion, and once Everett is passionate about something, he can't be stopped or quelled. His main habit is, if things go badly, he self destructs. Whether that means smoking three packs or drinking to the point of nearly passing out, it gives him relief because he feels as though he deserves the misfortune and refuses to inflict it on other people.

(You said) we were born with nothing
And we sure as hell have nothing now
(You said) we were born with nothing
And we sure as hell have nothing now

These lines basically mean that Everett was born with very little and still has very little, whether the things he has be tangible or intangible.

These are the things, the things we lost
The things we lost in the fire, fire, fire
These are the things, the things we lost
The things we lost in the fire, fire, fire

Do you understand that we will never be the same again
Do you understand that we will never be the same again
The future's in our hands and we will never be the same again
The future's in our hands and we will never be the same again

Once Everett changes, he changes forever. He's able to adapt quickly and doesn't often look back on things he's done wrong.

These are the things, the things we lost
The things we lost in the fire, fire, fire
These are the things, the things we lost
The things we lost in the fire, fire, fire

These are the things, the things we lost
These are the things we lost in the fire fire fire

Flames they licked the walls
Tenderly they turned to dust all that I adore.

Re: Infinity's Row: Character themes!

Post by Salphirix on Wed Oct 15, 2014 3:58 pm

I'm posting two songs for Caroline: A Lyric one and an OST.

Lyric:

Spoiler:
I can hold my breath
I can bite my tongue
I can stay awake for days
If that's what you want
Be your number one
----
Caroline, for the longest time ever, has been one to never stick up for herself or even voice her opinion. She always holds her words back, fearing whatever she says will make things worse for her or no one will even listen.
The last part explains basically how she lets people push her around.

---
I can fake a smile
I can force a laugh
I can dance and play the part
If that's what you ask
Give you all I am
---
She's always hid her emotions and feelings behind smiles, laughs, and lies. One of Caroline's fears is showing people how she feels, fearing that they'll judge her and view her as weak and sensitive.
The part "I can dance and play the part if that's what you ask" pretty much sums up how she'll play whatever part she needs to, such as a good soldier, without question.

---
I can do it
I can do it
I can do it
But I'm only human
And I bleed when I fall down
I'm only human
And I crash and I break down
Your words in my head, knives in my heart
You build me up and then I fall apart
'Cause I'm only human
---
Like the lyrics say, Caroline's only a human girl with feelings. Despite acting like everything that is said to her doesn't hurt, they really do. She also feels like some people don't understand even she will break down from time to time and have her bad days just like any other person.
The second to last lyric represents either of these 3 things: the memory of her mother (considering she has a book that her mother had which connects her to her mom. And she used the book as a way to calm herself when she was bullied in the orphanage), Keiran (seeing as he helped her when she was about to be thrown on the streets), or Cameron (as he was the one who understood her the best and made her feel needed and wanted, along with understanding her past and not using it against her.) and even though they build her back up and she relies on their support or she'll fall apart.

---
I can turn it on
Be a good machine
I can hold the weight of worlds
If that's what you need
Be your everything
---
Caroline tries her best to keep others around her happy and safe despite not being able to take care of herself. She pushes herself more than she should and holds "the weight of worlds" that being the pain of her past and the responsibilities of the Row.
---
*repeat chorus and meaning*
---
I'm only human
I'm only human
Just a little human

I can take so much
'Til I've had enough
---
Once again, she's only a human girl who can only take so much until she begins to feel like the world around her is suffocating her, drowning her in it's darkness. Until she, or someone else, pulls her out.
---
*repeat chorus and meaning*

Re: Infinity's Row: Character themes!

Post by WritingBookworm on Wed Oct 15, 2014 6:10 pm

Ooh, I love a lot of these themes so far. Very Happy

I have a lot of themes I'll eventually post, but this is the first and foremost one. This song is basically Gentry and Elias's combined theme--though they both have their own individual ones, too.

LYRICS BREAKDOWN:

Spoiler:
I was never right for the hero type of role
I admit it
With my heart shivering in fear,
I can see today's reflected in each past tear

This first verse is Gentry-centric. It's not so much that was 'never right' for the role, but given the circumstances she was born into--being into a proper sort of family and expected to eventually inherit the family business as well as being diagnosed with two serious diseases--being in the Row protecting the citizens of N'al Ren is one of the last things everyone would have expected her to do. And so she was raised as someone who wasn't meant to join, and with her immense social issues and unfamiliarity with the world, there was, of course, a bit of anxiety she had when she joined.

Even so
It has been calling the heavens to me
But I cannot hide all the emptiness inside
My fleeting heart. . .

But a bit of anxiety is nothing compared to an incredibly deep yearning to join and prove that yes, there's something she's good for. For a long time, she craved to join the Row, and when she did, she was certainly overjoyed and quickly became friendly with the other members. But, while it's initially not very apparent, underneath this new happiness and kindness are still a ton of lingering doubts, fears, and self-esteem issues: what if she's not good enough? What if she'll still be alone, no matter what she does?

Once in my dreams
I rose and soared
No matter how I'm knocked around
Or beaten down
I will stand up restored

Despite all of this, Gentry's allowed those hardships and struggles to make her even stronger, and no matter what, she'll come back out as an even better person than she was before. That's something about her that's actually really kind of beautiful.

All of my love
Has yet to wake
I know your strength is what I lack
You've got my back
And know that I've got yours

I have you to thank
For lighting up the dark

Meeting Elias was probably one of the best things that could have happened to her. Yes, they're really polar opposites, but that just allows them to work even better together, and they've become loyal to each other. Furthermore, he was the first person who never left Gentry, and she's seriously grateful for that.

Because you're here with me,
Our dreams will soar free
Forever

(I want to always be with you
I'll give you everything I have)

This doesn't need much explaining.

I could never find
Light to guide me through the night

This is where the theme starts belonging to Elias as well. While he hasn't necessarily had a 'dark and troubled past', he was raised to always see life as one unfortunate event after the other, as a place that has absolutely no sympathy for you, and that showing emotion will only lead to weakness. So he used logic as the backbone for his set of beliefs. By the time we meet him he's adapted pretty well to life's cruelties and, like Gentry, flourishes in it, but at the same time it prevented him from having the belief that there is good in the world, or that things will get better.

And with one touch
I recall every memory
All to precious to not hold them all close to me

He doesn't seem like it at first, but Elias is actually a very sentimental person once he gets attached to something. In a chaotic world, these few things are the only sources of peace in his life, so it's only natural for him to hold them close to his heart. His sister's death really affected him in the sense that he learned to be grateful for the time he had with her, and nearly losing Gentry in Renaissance made him a lot more appreciative for her as well. His shutting others out is almost understandable, because now, losing those he loves has become by far his worst fear.

It's tempting to close your eyes
And turn from the world
But it's bittersweet,
Like you've somehow missed a beat
With no restart. . .

We all know Elias. While he can be sentimental, it's far more often that he's emotionally detached from everything and everyone going on around him. He has a very tight hold of his heart, and sometimes he can really go out of his way to not let people inside. This is a means of protecting himself and ensuring that his life goes as smoothly as possible, but he's gradually beginning to learn that being so closed off also has its disadvantages.

When every wish has overlapped
You realize that if you carry on with every dawn,
Your hesitation fades

All your scars will disappear
I will become your sword and shield
This Crossing Field's
The path that we select

It's a very fortunate thing, that he met Gentry. The line about scars is very true, because let's face it--just like all the other Row members, he's seen a lot for someone his age. Some of these things--such as Nora's death, lack of a father figure for the first few years of his life and his mother withholding affection from him--have left deep mental scars on him, and to say that they're slowly beginning to fade thanks to Gentry's unconditional affection is a great thing. Elias has vowed to protect her and stick by her, no matter where they might go.

The promise we've made will last through all our days
If it's our bonds we'll live by,
I will put my faith in you.

It's extremely difficult for Elias to trust others, because that's just the way he is. He can count the number of people he trusts at all on one hand, and most of them only got it after long years of patience. For him to readily put his faith in Gentry is actually a huge stepping stone for him.

[Quick Instrumental]

I only need one miracle
Can you not hear me call
At all
Until the day
I'll keep screaming your name--

Once in my dreams I rose
And soared
No matter how I'm knocked around
Or beaten down
I will stand up restored

The rest of this song applies to both of them. They've both overcome a lot, and still have yet to pull through other struggles. But while their strengths may be different, there's no denying that they both have a ton of it.

All of my love
Has yet to wake

This one line is really cool because it's so true--for how they feel towards other people as well as each other. They both have a lot of it, but neither of them really realize it--it has yet to fully show itself.

I know your strength is what I lack
You've got my back
And know that I've got yours

These two are intensely loyal to one another. Both have done a lot to deserve it from the other, and now they really work well together, protecting each other as an epic battle duo. They're there for each other, no matter what.

I have you to thank
For lighting up the dark

Because you're here with me
Our dreams will soar free
Forever

(I want to always be with you
I want to hold you tight right now
I swear that I'll be who you choose
I'll give you everything I have. . .)

I'll analyze it when I'm less lazy but it's easy to figure out.

Oh my gosh, Fe's theme. . . O.O And oh my gosh Mirror Mirror is Azula's theme! Very Happy

Okay, so I've got another character theme of my own. Both of them go together--they have pretty similar lyrics. The first basically describes this character's descent, and the second very accurately describes what he's going to be like in the current IR. So I guess it's more important to listen to the second.

I'm actually not going to say who this character is just yet, because that would be very spoilery. I didn't explain the lyrics for that same reason. But I did bold some ones that are pretty important to the character overall.

And very quickly, I'll give a few hints on the character--yes, it is a villain. No, it's not Silverbane.

Spoiler:
Our names won't be remembered
If we die like trampled flowers
I refuse to be forgotten
Written off as less than worthless

Scream and cry
But none will hear you
Plead and beg
But none will help you
You no longer live as cattle
Will you rise and join the battle?

There are beings that live off of fears
And their words are like knives as they play with our lives
They'll try to control you
As if they own you
Will you let them steal your freedom?

Channel the anger swelling inside you
Fighting the boundary 'till you break through
Deep in your soul there's no hesitation
So make yourself the one they all fear

There is a wildfire inside you
Burning desire you can't extinguish
Your crimson arrow rips through the twilight
This is the moment for war
