(It's been one year since I made a news thread, oops)

Merry Christmas/Festivus/whatever holiday you do or do not celebrate!

2017 was a pretty busy year IRL for most of us - according to forum statistics, our busiest month was in June with 1671 total posts, meaning our post rate has been a little …

Forum Bug

Hi all,

We're aware of a peculiar forum glitch that's causing some subforums to be locked.

Due to the lateness at this time, it might be a while before the glitch can be remedied, because despite my best efforts and as far as I can tell, everything seems to be working fine admin-side. It may have …

Story Empty Story

Post by Paradox on Tue Oct 07, 2014 9:29 pm

Hi everyone! The last few days, I've really wanted to write somthing.  I finally descide to, then post it on here.  I'm going to turn this into a story, though I'm not sure yet what way I'm going to go with it, I'm going to write it as it comes to me.  I'm an absolutely terrible writer, so don't expect anything amazing.

The rain pours down on the small, burnt house at the end of the dark, narrow canyon.  The hiss of steam and the fall of rain are the only sounds to be heard, and a dark mix of steam and smoke wafts into the air.  At the front of the charred ruins, a boy in his late teens wearing a dark cloak kneels with his head pointed downward.  Alone at the house, he takes it all in, the sound of the steam, the wet ground below his feet and knees, and the acrid smell of rising smoke.  Reaching around his back, the boy pulls a knife, sharp and black, from his bag, and proceeds to carve a shape into the stone, while muttering, “Ten lines, radiating outward from a center point, through a circle then further outward, before stopping where they cross with lines traveling counterclockwise from the ends of the first lines.”  He stands up, staring down at his carving.

At the top of the canyon wall, three figures, enveloped in black cloaks, unbeknownst to any below, stand.  They stare down at the lone boy in the ruins of the house, in silence until the one standing on the right speaks up, "Shall we go down there and take care of this one like we did the others?" He asks, in a gruff, evil-sounding voice, pulling a silver knife, engraved with complex, runic symbols, that glows an unnatural red from his cloak.

"No," responds the one in the center, in a much calmer and quieter voice, "let this one live, we have other plans for him."  With that the three figures turn around, walk a few steps, and disappear, with no one in the area ever knowing they were there.

The boy concentrates, and stands up.   He turns, and looks at the burnt house one last time, then turns around and begins the long walk back down the canyon, the sky clearing at his back, and sun starting to shine down.
