We're aware of a peculiar forum glitch that's causing some subforums to be locked.

Due to the lateness at this time, it might be a while before the glitch can be remedied, because despite my best efforts and as far as I can tell, everything seems to be working fine admin-side. It may have …

After more than a month long case of writer's block, I plan to have the next chapter released some time this week.

    No promises.

    ~Elia~

Elia could barely resist rolling her eyes. What idiot, even a Hermes kid, would say that the cops were hopped up on drugs?!

While everyone was fighting the Caucasian Eagle, Elia had gone to confront another matter - mortals had phoned in to the Falls City Police Department, reporting a sudden tremor around the area. At least according to Zack, the Mercury counselor.

Now, about 5 police cars and a firetruck had arrived on the scene. With no Mist to muddle their visions, and a large group of Hermes, Mercury, and Loki campers struggling to convince the police that it was all "just a hallucination," Elia had a real problem on her hands.

While one of the campers, Richard, was getting a pat-down, the counselor of the Hermes cabin, Prudence, continued trying to distract the others. Elia just looked at the mass confusion, unsure of what to do. Her brown curls bounced around in the wind, much like her thoughts.

"Elia, what's... oh." Kat walked up to Elia, interested in the scene, and soon trailed off as she stared at the pranksters desparately trying to keep the police out of the premises. If mortals saw the four camps, it would change their world forever.

"Yeah. The situation is SO under control," Elia muttered. She still didn't forgive Kat entirely for getting her kicked out of camp, even though they were formally forgiven. Sure, she didn't have to sneak into the coffee shop, but they wouldn't have gotten caught if Kat didn't freak out at the mini-Tesla coil Cameron had accidentally triggered. Quite ironic - a daughter of Jupiter, startled by electricity.

Kat grinned at the Loki campers trying to juggle rocks. Four of them kept dropping the small pebbles. "I can handle this," she announced.

Elia gave her a blank stare. Besides being able to fly (which wouldn't help), manipulate the Mist (which wouldn't help either), and using electricity (which... you get the idea), Kat had no useful traits in this situation. The mystery was solved however, when Kat leaned in and whispered, "Reality bending. I'll explain later." She quickly jogged over to the group.

Elia just rolled her eyes. Of course, everyone has to be more powerful than her. It wasn't fair that a daughter of Nemesis could... she squinted her eyes. No, Nemesis wasn't about "fairness," she thought to herself, she was about balance, about karma. Unfortunately, that thought only pissed herself off even more.

Kat walked to the police officer arguing with Prudence, a balding, oddly skinny man. "Young lady, I'm going to ask you one more time to step aside. This is obstruction of justice."

"What justice? You crossing onto our property without a warrant? Oh, hey Kat!" Prudence called cheerfully. Her wavy blond hair looked like Instant Ramen, yet she had a sort of mischievous beauty to her. Kat nodded, raised her hand, and managed to surprise Elia out of her sulking.

The entire area shimmered and shook, tilting backwards and forwards, inverting itself, and even flipping upside down. It felt as if gravity was being twisted along with the planet. Elia went to her knees, struggling to make sense of what was going on. Oh gods, please don't throw up... please....

The others didn't fare much better; two began heaving, and another officer curled up into the fetal position. Yet the cop in front stood his ground. His paper-white face began reddening with confusion. For a moment, Elia began to think Kat's new power could backfire.

"What the hell..." the officer mumbled, belching several times before continuing. "You're obviously in possession of drugs, all of you kids! No wonder you're acting so - "

"Wait, we're under the influence? I feel totally fine. Right, Prudence?" Kat asked. Prudence, looking slightly green, nodded. "Yeah. You guys on shrooms?"

"Actually, they're call- " one overweight officer, between a series of weird belches, spoke up. The head officer cut him off.

"Quiet, Rooney! We don't need HQ knowing about what we do," he hissed at him. Elia raised an eyebrow. "So, you guys ARE on drugs?"

The officer paled, backing away slightly. "Um, I didn't say that..." He and Prudence stared at each other. Finally, the balding cop sighed.

"We'll let you off with a warning," he muttered. The reality warp wore off, and the police officers filed into their cars, speeding off rather quickly.

Prudence turned to Kat, grinning. "Holy crap! How'd ya do that?!" But suddenly, Kat cut her off. "Not right now. My group and I need to talk."

    . . .

"So... three of you have Chaotic powers, and all three of you together make misfortune?" Elia had been mulling over this for the past five minutes. Half of that time she had spent bent over a trash can, praying to Jupiter that her life would end. Motion sickness was a big weakness for her.

It seemed to her that Chaos was trying everything in his power to screw things up. The thirteen heroes were centered around one large table, like King Arthur's knights. Except now, there was one destined to die, and three could screw things up for all of them. Elia bit her tongue, not very confident that things couldn't get worse. From her experience as a demigod, they always did.

Kat nodded at Elia's question. "Basically. We'll have to figure out a way to deal with that. Gregory said that there was another person that could restore balance, if he or she knew who they were."

"First things first. We need to figure out where Chaos is going to begin wreaking havoc. First, though, we have to restore the Mist. If we don't, the whole world will be sent into a tailspin. I'm surprised there hasn't been any monster sightings yet..."

Adrian coughed slightly. "If I may interject... how exactly are we going to restore the Mist?" The question made several of the kids stared at the table, unsure how to answer. It seemed nobody had any idea, and for good reason. The Mist was supposed to be the most powerful magic in the world. How to restore it....

The four magicians suddenly looked at each other, as if speaking telepathically. For all Elia knew, they probably were; after about 2 minutes of tense silence, they turned to the group. "Well... you know voodoo?" Orian asked tentatively. The word "voodoo" kind of slipped off of his tongue, as if he were trying to carry it delicately, but dropped it on accident.

Damien snickered slightly. "Voodoo? You mean witch doctor stuff, like down south? It's 2025. I doubt they're still around. And that stuff originated from like, Africa. I don't know if even Egyptians will be able to use it." He glanced at Alex, Omar, and Victoria, who all fidgeted nervously.

Kat and Adrian nodded slightly. This was a rather huge leap, even for the magicians. But Elia believed they may have been on to something....

"That could be inaccurate. The Egyptian magicians have been around for ages. And Louisiana voodoo is somewhat recent. If even regular mortals can use it, why not magicians? We just have to find the right source of energy. There could be several areas in the bayou untouched since voodoo priests visited it, just full of it. It may not be from our worlds necessarily, but we might be able to harness it," Elia explained.

Everyone thought it over. Not entirely plausible. Who could say how much voodoo was still around the Louisiana bayou? But Elia remained confident. Not prideful, but confident.

Finally, Damien shrugged. "Why not? If we can convert unused voodoo magic into the Mist, we could be able to take on Chaos. If there aren't any ancient voodoo priests ready to kill us or something." Only the first part sounded believable, but everyone was still stoked that something could be done.

Omar cracked his knuckles in agreement. "Yep. From what we can tell about Chaos, he has to take awhile to regain enough strength to throw us another loop. Even his own power is unstable."

Kat clapped her hands excitedly. "I think it's brilliant. Risky. But brilliant. Simple demigods can't convert magical energy, but a spell should do." She stood up, popping her back and knuckles. "We'll set off first thing tomorrow morning."

While everyone went their separate ways, Kat walked over to Elia, a joyful look on her face. The daughter of Nemesis grew wary, but Kat said something she didn't expect. "Good thinking, El. We might actually have a chance now." She gave Elia a small smile, and went off to help the Hephaestus cabin with a security mechanism.

Despite the annoying nickname, Elia grinned. It was the first time that week that she felt proud of herself.

(Because I am still picky about this chapter, I will make small edits to this. But this is for the most part, a final product.)

OK, a little update. Some good news, some not-so-good news.

Good news: I am not abandoning this story. I still have plans for it.

Not-so-good news: With EOC exams/new RPGs/renewed subscription to a game, I will have to put this on the bottom of my list. My writer's block for TDC is bigger than I expected, and I feel a little disappointed with some aspects of it.

I am NOT abandoning it. It will be back, say, end of May/beginning of June. New chapter, new experiences, same story. I will very likely be posting other stories just to get them out of my head, but for now, TDC is taking a hiatus.
