End of Year News (December 2017)

Thu Dec 28, 2017 3:57 am by Adrian

(It's been one year since I made a news thread, oops)

Merry Christmas/Festivus/whatever holiday you do or do not celebrate!

2017 was a pretty busy year IRL for most of us - according to forum statistics, our busiest month was in June with 1671 total posts, meaning our post rate has been a little …

Forum Bug

Wed Dec 28, 2016 3:18 am by Adrian

Hi all,

We're aware of a peculiar forum glitch that's causing some subforums to be locked.

Due to the lateness at this time, it might be a while before the glitch can be remedied, because despite my best efforts and as far as I can tell, everything seems to be working fine admin-side. It may have …

A Guide On The Like Feature [RE-DONE!]

Post by Adrian on Thu Jun 13, 2013 4:17 pm

We have a new reputation system in place! This allows users to vote up or down on a post...

Okay, so we're going to ignore what used to be there, since this thread is like 3 years old! Yay!

For those of you that were there for it, on March 27th(?) CC got a huge revamp and with it came the "Like" feature.

The Like button is pretty straightforward - just click that Green button at the bottom of a post and voila! The page will refresh and display that you and so-and-so have liked that post! However, there are bits of information for old and new users that may answer some questions you have about the system:

Old Users:

A few of you may have noticed that there are posts (such as the Rules thread) that don't display the Like button as click-able. The most likely reason for this is that, when we had the old (+) and (-) reputation system, you had already clicked the plus or minus button. Since the Like system is hooked up to the Reputation system, the Like button recognizes that you've already submitted your input (even if it was negative!) and won't let you click. Unfortunately, there isn't anything that can be done about it. (This also counts for those few posts that don't display liked users when I was still fiddling around with the Database. Now it should display who likes what for newer "Likes.")

New Users:

Because I have to manually add new users to a hidden usergroup for their "likes" to formally appear, when you first join a forum and immediately like a post, there's a possibility that your name won't appear - even once I've added you to said usergroup. There isn't really a way to automatically add new users once they've joined the site, due to the way the whole system is set up, so apologies for that as well.

If you have questions or comments, don't hesitate to ask!
