Forum Bug

Hi all,

We're aware of a peculiar forum glitch that's causing some subforums to be locked.

Due to the lateness at this time, it might be a while before the glitch can be remedied, because despite my best efforts and as far as I can tell, everything seems to be working fine admin-side. It may have …

SCENE TWENTY: DAY NINE

Trem and 2b3heart began to pack up their camp while Writing went out to retrieve more food and water to replenish their supplies. As she did, the former two tributes began discussing strategies, when Trem let 2b3heart in on a little secret – he had taken Ronan’s bow and arrow set before he was taken by the hovercraft.

“It’ll be you and me in the final three,” Trem assured 2b3heart. But she wasn’t so sure. Trem had always been slippery during these games. Something seemed off about the tone of his voice…

Unfortunately, Writing had overheard this on her way back to the camp. Though she made no indication that she heard Trem and 2b3heart’s conversation, inside, her mind was racing. Was she going to be next? Sooner or later, she would have to take action… but how?

On the other side of the woods, Salphirix tried to sleep the day away – but paranoia wracked her dreams, and she kept waking up in a cold sweat. Finally, she clutched her throwing knives and headed out, trying to keep it together.

SCENE TWENTY-ONE: NIGHT NINE

2b3heart couldn’t handle keeping Trem’s secret for much longer. When she was close enough to Writing, she quickly clutched Writing’s outfit and started dragging the two through the woods.

“What’s going on?!” Writing shouted, trying to pull the other tribute away.

“It’s Trem. He wants to-“

A shout echoed off of the trees behind the two tributes, and suddenly, Writing’s fears were confirmed – Trem wanted to finish them off.

“Split up!” Writing hissed, breaking away from 2b3heart. The latter rushed off into the woods, leaving Writing to be pursued by Trem.

As 2b3heart ran, her heart pounded harder and harder until she finally fell against a large oak tree, out of breath. She couldn’t hear Trem, which was good – but she also couldn’t hear Writing. Indeed, she thought she was alone, until a lone figure appeared from the underbrush. It was Salphirix, holding a finger to her lips.

She pulled out a small handkerchief, on which blueberries were spilled out. Sal took the bottle out of her pocket, sprinkling the red dust onto the berries and offering one to 2b3heart. Slowly, realization dawned onto 2b3heart and she stared at Sal, confused.

“Do you think it’ll…”

“Shh. Only one way to find out,” Sal whispered. The two took the poisoned berries into their hands and popped them into their mouths. As the poison seeped into their systems, the two glanced up at the stars, waiting for an intervention, some form of salvation.

It never came.

The cannon boomed twice.

Writing had quite a lead ahead of Trem, but she knew she couldn’t keep up the chase for long – eventually she’d have to fight back. But she had nothing on her, and Trem was proven to be a deadly shot.

She slowed down a bit next to an oak tree to catch her breath and try to figure out a plan. And that’s when the first arrow struck.

Disappointed, Trem cursed under his breath. It was right in her shoulder. He misjudged his shot.

Oh well. At least it would slow her down. And he had plenty of arrows. Trem notched another arrow and took aim, this time at Writing’s head. His fingers tensed, preparing to let go. With a final twang, the bowstring let loose.

Trem heard the “thunk” of the arrow as it landed in Writing’s direction, and he let out a sigh. He had won the games.

But his breath of relief came out rattled and painful. Confused, Trem looked down to see a sharp object, lodged into his chest. He glanced up to see Writing – a single arrow in her shoulder as she clutched the last of Salphirix’s knives. The arrow he fired had embedded itself into the oak tree instead, thrown off by Trem’s interrupted trajectory. Before he could say anything – last words, a final congratulations – his eyes darkened.

Writing stood alone, and as the hovercraft whined above her to take her away, she wondered if, after all of this death and betrayal, she truly deserved this win. But as the hovercraft picked her up, she hardly had time to think at all.

THE END
