Forum Bug

Hi all,

We're aware of a peculiar forum glitch that's causing some subforums to be locked.

Due to the lateness at this time, it might be a while before the glitch can be remedied, because despite my best efforts and as far as I can tell, everything seems to be working fine admin-side. It may have …

~Adair~

"We have to get moving quick," Riada called out to anyone that was listening, "Those guys are still out there and some of them could've seen Lucille and me running off."

He was still looking out the window like he was waiting for an attack but I moved my gaze over to Lucille. I felt a pang of guilt run through me at how weakly she was leaning into Lucille. If I had let Gretchen kill Slade right there, if we could have done something to stop Harbringer in time...

Instead of dwelling on that I let my head fall onto Riada's shoulder, feeling his hand move up to pat me on the shoulders as I squeezed my eyes shut.

Oh no you don't. Though the hit from his tail has me staggering back, I give chase to him as he disappears into the trees. I'm not letting you take my mother again!

But before I can follow him into the woods, a sheen barrier divides me from Slade. I look over my shoulder, finding Harbinger with one of his hands outstretched, a sneer on his face.

Gretchen's body took a few seconds to react to what she saw - Lucille. Alive.

Standing behind Annie in case either of the other girls lost their balance, the brunette started with the only thing that would leave her tongue:

"Luc, are you hurt?"

I shrug at Gretchen's question. It's my fault I got hurt. If I hadn't tried to shoot Harbinger, he wouldn't have broken my wrists.

"We're just about to take off," I hear one of the paramedics answer Riada. Sure enough, the blades overhead begin to whir faster than before. "Everyone sit back down, we're about to go."

Annie didn't want to let go.
"...please just sit down..." she finally mumbled, trying not to cry.

---

Slade burst through the trees, snapping branches and melting snow as he plowed towards the helicopter.
It's taking off! I'm not too late!

He charged forward, taking several wide steps as quickly as he good until he mere feet away from the helicopter, and attempted to grab the tail.

- Lucille -

I slowly sit down on one of the seats on the side, still keeping close to Annie. I blearily look up as a paramedic takes the other seat next to me, gingerly taking one of my arms. "All right, let's take a look at these, shall we? I'm sure we can get them patched up in no -- "

The helicopter lurches to the side, flattening me against the wall. I look up, and out the window I see Slade narrowly missing the tail of the helicopter as we lift off.

"Oh my god," I say, squeezing my eyes shut. When is this going to end? I wish this would just end.

~Riada~

My eyes widened and I pulled Adair against the wall as the helicopter lurched, cursing under my breath at the sight of Slade. I pulled on his sleeve to get him to follow me over to where Lucille and the Director were, knowing that I wouldn't be able to get them both out of here again but the two of us may be able to. I made Lucille a promise, I didn't want to go breaking it.

Slade had almost grabbed the tail of the helicopter.

Just a bit higher...

He missed. It slipped out of his claw and continued to rise, out of his reach. His enormous body landed on the ground, making a sizable impact. A range of emotions went through his head; Words couldn't describe exactly how he felt.

They're gone.

His lower jaw trembled, as he tried to consider his options, and what would happen from here on out. The idea of throwing something came to his mind, but that would likely kill the targets.

I've failed again... they'll punish me for this. Might hurt Mom and Iz. I hope they don't do that. We still need to pull out... I don't know where Harbinger is, Akira may very well be dead. The whole world knows who I am; there'll be bounties on my head even if we manage to escape. I wish I had told Lucille... what I had planned to do.

I may never see Gretchen or Annie again. Maybe I will. I don't know what would be worse.

---

As the helicopter regained its balance, Annie stood up again, and looked out the window. Daikaiju was visible, lying in the snow motionless.
"I will kill you, Slade Norman," she whispered, barely audible. "You deserve nothing less."

~Adair~

Riada slid to the floor with a long, relieved sigh as Slade missed the helicopter. His eyes fell closed and he finally took a second to breath now that we were out of immediate danger.

I stayed on my feet, watching Slade as the helicopter rose higher into the sky. He may not have caught us but I still wanted to keep an eye out for anyone else that may be able to get to us. We weren't out of the woods yet.

"Dude, did you just make a pun?"

"Shush."

- Lucille -

"We're out of reach," announces the pilot over the intercom. "Do not worry; we will be taking you to a hotel in a nearby city so you'll have a place to stay for the night."

I barely hear him. I also ignore the medic's protest as I stand up, joining Annie by the window.

I'd come over to act as emotional support. I couldn't imagine what she'd gone through tonight. But when I'm by her side, my terror subsides. I'm sure that terror will come back to haunt me in the near future. But for now, it acts as a wave, receding briefly before crashing down on me again.

And when it pulls back, I find myself filled with rage.

Did Slade know? All this time, did Slade know that ASDOM had my brother?

Even if he didn't, he's working for them. He's with the people that took Lance.

I look down at Slade. In the window, I can see a faint reflection of myself, and my eyes are bloodshot with hate. Annie said she wants to kill him, but I don't want to kill him, I want to hurt him. Beat him so badly that Isabelle will never ever recognize his face again and --

I take a deep breath, stopping that train of thought before it can go anywhere else. I look over at Annie. I don't know if I can console her with a mere sympathetic gaze, but I try.
