(It's been one year since I made a news thread, oops)

Merry Christmas/Festivus/whatever holiday you do or do not celebrate!

2017 was a pretty busy year IRL for most of us - according to forum statistics, our busiest month was in June with 1671 total posts, meaning our post rate has been a little …

Forum Bug

Hi all,

We're aware of a peculiar forum glitch that's causing some subforums to be locked.

Due to the lateness at this time, it might be a while before the glitch can be remedied, because despite my best efforts and as far as I can tell, everything seems to be working fine admin-side. It may have …

"I hope he's not in trouble! It looks important, though." I shrug.

~Adair~

I looked around the area and grabbed Riada's arm to lead us to the right helicopter. He yelped as he lost his footing but righted himself and fell into step next to me, shoving my arm playfully.

Once we were onboard I spotted our team leader and looked over the heads of everyone else to see who was already here.

"It's this way!"

"Are you sure?"

"Yes! Adair and Riada are this way."

"Are you doing the thing?"

A pause. Lachtna was thinking. "..Maybe I am..?"

"Oh crap, you're right! There it is!"

"Oh cool, I did the thing!"

After a few minutes of half-running, Lachtna and Fiachra appeared at the helicopter. They followed the lead of those already on board and took a seat.

"Good morning, Alex," I heard Empathy say pleasantly as he came on board. "And good morning to you, too, Riada and Adair, Fiachra and Lachtna. Buckle up. We'll be taking off in a minute."

I look over my shoulder after I drop my bag among the luggage, eyeing both sets of twins. "You're all coming along too, huh?"

- Kendall -

"Now," I say as I make my way through the aisle, "hasn't anyone told you ladies it's impolite to stare?"

"Sorry! You're right," I say, "but I was curious. Is everything okay?"

"You like twins?" Fiachra spread his arms out in a shrug, before Lachtna copied his movements, adding, "We got twins!"

- Valerie -

I smirk, saying, "We sure do, don't we?" before taking a seat and strapping myself in.

- Kendall -

"Oh, yeah," I say dismissively. "It was nothing much, don't worry."

- Lucille -

I take a seat close to Slade and Gretchen. They make special arrangements for Maxwell, lifting up a pair of seats so there's adequate space for a wheelchair.

Once we're all on, the Martial gets on as well, sticking near the pilot's seat. She takes a head count, finger hopping from one student to another before she nods to herself.

"All clear," she says to the pilot.

The pilot gives her a thumbs-up. A few button pushes later, I hear the heavy helicopter blades whirr above our heads, and we start to lift off the ground.

Re: Harwell's Institute for the Fairly Exceptional

Slade took a seat next to Gretchen. He looked a bit nervous.
"Looks like we're taking off now..." he muttered audibly enough for anybody to hear.

Annie's eyes darted between her squadmates.
I still feel like I know next to nothing about these people. Gretchen seems easy enough to read, so I doubt her secrets are particularly impressive. Still, I won't cross her off the list... even the seemingly nicest people can have skeletons in their closets. She could be good at hiding her true self.
Her gaze drifted over Gretchen's cousin.
Slade doesn't seem like the kind of guy to hide anything, and yet I still no pretty much nothing about his past, other than that he usually spends the holidays with Gretchen. He's hesitant to talk about his home life. Maybe there's some trauma there? Even though he's always trying to be positive for other's sake, it seems like he can become distressed at the weirdest things...
Finally, she landed on Lucille.
Just who are you, Lucille Lear? You're quiet, you seem nervous, paranoid almost... like someone's lurking behind your back. What is your past? I'm sure if I asked Slade about his, he'd answer, but no... you definitely have something you want to hide. Just what would it take to break your shell? You're such a loner, you almost remind me of- ...of myself.
Annie realized just what she was doing and became disgusted with herself. She looked down into her lap in shame.
Why are you doing this? Don't you realize the hypocrisy? I haven't told any of them about my history, and here I am mentally grilling them for not telling me theirs.
We've only known each other for a week... of course they'd have a few cards they want to keep hidden.
Have you forgotten what it's like to have friends? Has it really been this long?

---

Sophia smirked mischievously.
"Hey Kendall," she half-whispered, eyes darting back and forth shiftily, "Want a mint?"

Gretchen put her hands in her lap polietly as he helicopter began to move. She glanced over at her friends, smiling at them if she caught their eye. However, Annie's gaze remained down and away from her, and she frowned in concern.

"Annie?" She asked carefully, "are you ok?"

Annie looked up in surprise.
Great, they noticed.
"Yeah, I'm fine." She said in as enthusiastic a voice as she could muster. "Sorry, I was just thinking."
