Hi all,

We're aware of a peculiar forum glitch that's causing some subforums to be locked.

Due to the lateness at this time, it might be a while before the glitch can be remedied, because despite my best efforts and as far as I can tell, everything seems to be working fine admin-side. It may have …

*wipes sweat from brow* Whew, political correctness is a lot of hard work. But it has to be done.

ANYWAYS, we did it - we (almost) survived 2016 which, I think we can all agree, was pretty damn terrible in many ways.

Regardless, it was a good year on the forums - we've met some new faces, set out …

Gretchen couldn't find it in herself to be angry anymore.

Annie..had lost someone. Someone she loved. Her brother. Just like Gretchen and Slade had lost their fathers.

The brunette fell silent, choosing not to move. Slade was comforting Annie, and that was Slade's speciality.

Besides, she hadn't been able to get a word in to anyone, maybe that was the universe's way of telling her to let things be.

Yea, I'm aware. That would be the first interesting thing he's said and it's still hardly creative. Hmm.

"Fuck off," I say in the most nonchalant way possible, getting to work opening the vent.

- Lucille -

Her story and her openness take me completely by surprise. Even Maxwell's expression seems to soften a little. I'd always seen Annie as someone aloof, someone who didn't need any support.

But I guess sometimes the ones who don't look like they need support turn out to be the ones who need it the most.

I don't know how much Annie and I were friends before. But I know the pain of losing a brother. So I crawl onto the bed with Slade and Annie, and wrap my arms around Annie from behind. I press one side of my face to her back.

To Annie, it seemed to last for several minutes. The warmth and silence was extremely comforting. Soon, she regained her composure, prompting Slade to loosen his embrace and go back to sitting at the side of the bed.

"Thank you..." she responded, her voice returning to normal. Her eyes were still a bit red and puffy but otherwise she looked like herself. "I'm sorry I burdened you all with that."

"It's okay. You're not burdening anyone." I don't want to do this. But now that even Annie's opening up, I have no excuse.

Don't worry so much. If Lance were here, I bet this what he would be saying. You don't have to reveal everything all at once. Take it step by step.

"I know what you're feeling because I lost a brother, too." And there you have it, comes Lance's voice again. The first step. That's all you need. Not so hard, is it? "That's really difficult. Thanks for trusting us enough to tell us that."

Everything about Lucille seemed to make sense now.

Her behavior. Her secretive personality. The silent marks of past trauma.

The reason Annie saw so much of herself in Lucille... was because Lucille had gone through the same things as her. They were alike in many ways.

And the way Annie had thought about Lucille earlier... it made her heart ache with guilt.
"Oh dear..." were the only words she could utter, having only barely recovered from her own confession. "I'm sorry. I had no idea."

Slade looked over at his cousin with uncertainty. She seemed a bit quiet, at the side of things. He felt bad, thinking she might feel left out, though he reasoned she might just be trying to give Annie some space.
"...think we'd better tell them, Gretch?"

Gretchen shook her head slightly in confusion.

"Tell them what?" she asked her cousin, indifferent tone edging bitter. "I'm an open book. Or, at least," she looked to Lucille, "I try to be."

(Okay, time to nudge this along.)

~Vincent~

Without heeding any warnings from my companions, I opened the double doors and immediately almost lost my balance.

It looked like we were about to walk into an Escher painting. Stairs led to walls, terminating at vertical angles, and walkways seemed to defy gravity. Doors were scattered across the walls and even the ceiling - some were right side up, but others were sideways or upside down. A Penrose staircase rotated in the middle of the room - a series of steps leading absolutely nowhere.

"Impossible," I breathed. None of this seemed right. At all.

Tentatively, I took a step onto a staircase to our right, which spiraled until it was flush with the vertical wall. I didn't feel any immediate change, but...

"Something tells me we should keep going." I turned to the group. "I think... we can still walk on these." I pointed to a staircase above, which was completely upside down. "The gravity here feels different."

(LOL forgot to tell you what to do next, Shayla.

There's a bolt on the lower left of the vent. Slam it once and it'll break the whole thing free. After that, get out of the vent.)

Nice job.

I do what he suggests and, sure enough, the vent pops open. Not seeing any immediate danger, I step out without hesitation.
