Hi all,

We're aware of a peculiar forum glitch that's causing some subforums to be locked.

Due to the lateness at this time, it might be a while before the glitch can be remedied, because despite my best efforts and as far as I can tell, everything seems to be working fine admin-side. It may have …

*wipes sweat from brow* Whew, political correctness is a lot of hard work. But it has to be done.

ANYWAYS, we did it - we (almost) survived 2016 which, I think we can all agree, was pretty damn terrible in many ways.

Regardless, it was a good year on the forums - we've met some new faces, set out …

That would be fun! For the first RPG I'm fairly certain characters are only being divided into Gamma and Delta, but that's still a good idea.

As for when the RPG releases, probably either tomorrow or Tuesday, leaning slightly towards Tuesday, just to give people a bit more time to complete forms. It'd probably release in the early afternoon on Tuesday, if that's what happened.

Re: [APPLICATIONS THREAD] Harwell's Institute for the Fairly Exceptional

Post by WritingBookworm on Mon Dec 19, 2016 3:48 pm

Sooo Kendall was going to be my second form, but I've been having trouble with face claims for him. So here's Valerie.

Valerie Waller:
Name: Valerie Waller

Alias: Strongarm

Age: 17

Appearance:

5'9", D-Cup. She usually wears fancy gloves that reach down to her elbow.

Hometown: New York City, New York

Personality: In hindsight, Valerie seems really shallow. She's obsessed with her appearance, selecting only her finest, most expensive (and, sometimes, most revealing) clothing, and is quick to find flaws in others. She's haughty, refuses to admit when she's wrong, and laments that she can't be the Queen Bee at Harwell's and go for the acting career she so desperately wanted to pursue.

Valerie's a lot more than she looks, though. She's smart, and cares about grades. She always has. She's insecure about a few things, the most prominent thing being her powers. She'd much rather play the part of a beautiful damsel that wins the guy rather than step up to the plate and be a hero in her own right. Circumstances are about to push her towards the latter.

Personality Type: ESFP

Abilities:

-Superhuman Strength: Valerie is able to lift, throw, and carry many things that normal humans can't, and can lift up to four tons. Her strength is powerful, but also unrestrained -- it's too easy for her to crush various objects by just picking them up. As of late, she's been wearing gloves made of a special polymer that absorbs most of the impact of her strength, and can live a normal life so long as she wears them.

-Superhuman Durability: Her skin is impervious to regular bullets and blades.

Personal History: Valerie is the daughter of Kristen Waller, the director of the International Superhuman Organization. Kristen was always away on duty, and her father divorced her mother from an early age, so Valerie's never had an especially-present parental figure in her life. While she was sent to the best of private institutions and given the finest of things, there has always been something missing in her life.

Come her teenage years, she couldn't take it anymore. Sure, she did get attention from her mother when her powers revealed themselves, and her mother was able to use her connections to obtain gloves that would allow Valerie to live a normal life, so long as she never took them off. But that was it, really. She never got attention from her mother outside of that. So she would get her mother's attention.

Valerie started being a bit of rebel. Being one of the most popular girls at her school, she did what a lot of stereotypical popular girls do, mainly starting a bunch of rumors about others. She went to parties, got drunk, made out with a bunch of guys. This earned her some degree of reprimand from her mother, but not nearly as much as she would have liked. So she took it a step further.

One night, at a club, disaster struck. Valerie made a mistake so great it attracted the attention of not just her mother, but the entire International Superhuman Organization.

Putting down a Trigger Warning just in case:
For years in high school, Valerie had been eyeing Dylan Forrester, a star basketball player and what the girls (and some of the guys) considered to be one of the most attractive men in school. After years of flirting and pining, Valerie finally won Dylan's attention, and became his girlfriend. When they met up at a club Valerie's friend owned, Valerie showed him a private room in the club. Alone, the two started making out, and started taking it to a bed.

There, Valerie took off her gloves, and touched the skin of another human being when she caressed Dylan's face. For the first time in years, she felt the warmth of another human being. She began making out with him again, and started to come to the verge of intercourse. Though she knew Dylan would never truly accept her if he knew who she truly was -- what guy wanted a girl who was both stronger and smarter than him, after all? --, she was pretty, and Dylan liked pretty girls, so that was enough.

And besides, if she had intercourse with another guy, then at least that might attract her mom's attention.

In the rush of the moment, Valerie just forgot one small detail.

She forgot to put her gloves back on.

Because of this, Dylan couldn't handle her unrestrained strength as she straddled on top of him, and she heard a sickening crunch as she crushed Dylan's shoulders and biceps under her hands. Valerie screamed loud enough for the entire club to hear.

She called 911, and Dylan was rushed to the emergency room. After much intensive care, Dylan was stablized, and it was reported that he would be fine. But that didn't change the fact that Valerie had injured him greviously. It might have been an accident, but whatwith superhumans' current situation . . . if extremists got word of another incident where a superhuman harmed a regular human, that could only serve as more fuel for their propoganda. The ISO had to pay the Forresters quite the sum of money to buy their silence about what really happened.

To punish her for her grevious mistake, Kristen Waller finally decided that it was high time that Valerie got her life under order. Valerie broke, and unleashed all of her true feelings toward her mother in a burst of rage, but this didn't change anything. The life Valerie worked so hard to build was about to be upended as Director Waller contacted the headmaster of the only institution that could possibly get her daughter under control -- Harwell's.

Family: Kristen Waller (mother), Jay Waller (father)

Likes and Dislikes: Valerie loves nice clothes (especially ones that show off her figure), acting, and long, nice showers. She hates most things that aren't of fine taste, and her powers.

Strengths: Valerie's super strong and super durable, so she makes for an excellent tank to put on the front lines. She's kinder than she seems. She's both beautiful and confident, and isn't afraid to use her sexuality to her advantage.

Weaknesses: She's insecure to her powers to the point that she's not willing to use them. Her super strength, if unchecked by her gloves, is uncontrolled. Her skin's impervious to standards bullets and blades, but she's still not as hard to take down as she looks. You just have to be creative about it. She has strained relationships with almost everyone, most of all her mother, and her confidence and unwillingness to back down can lead to arguments on a pretty frequent basis.

Other/Trivia:

- Her face claim is Erica Blandelli from Campione!

- Yes, her last name is a reference to Amanda Waller, director of A.R.G.U.S.

- Valerie's a Gryffindor.

Re: [APPLICATIONS THREAD] Harwell's Institute for the Fairly Exceptional

Post by Fix-It on Tue Dec 20, 2016 1:57 pm

Name: Summer Matthews

Alias: Topaz

Age: 17, born on November 7th.

Appearance:
Spoiler:

Hometown: Los Angeles, CA.

Personality: Summer is sweet, bubbly and adorable. Perfect popstar material, in short. She loves to make people happy, whether they’re her friends or strangers. She’s great on stage and isn’t afraid to show off her skilling capabilities.

At least, that’s what Summer wants you to think. Behind this facade, she is selfish and rude. She believes wholeheartedly that to make it anywhere in life, you need to look out for yourself and only yourself. She’s very manipulative and knows what people are interested in. She doesn’t necessarily get along with people, either.

Personality Type: ESTP

Sexuality: Straight

Abilities: Summer is able to draw anyone’s attention and keep it on herself by singing. So long as she is singing, they won’t be able to focus their attention anywhere but herself. She can’t use this power in quick succession (i.e. she sings a song and then immediately sings another), and she must be singing an actual song (correctly) for the power to trigger.

Personal History: Summer was abandoned by her parents when she was four years old. She grew up in the care of a family that wasn’t her’s. And that’s always bothered her. When she turned 8, she ran away. She scraped by on the streets, sitting by busy intersections with cardboard signs. She was barely living. And then, she discovered her superpower. She dropped the sign strategy, and instead sang. The tips started coming in. Within a week, she was a viral video star.

A new period of Summer’s life began. She was famous. She had been signed into a record company, was performing every other day, and showing people everywhere that all you need for success is hardwork -- and superpowers. She’s made enough money off her music to live in luxury.

She decided to take a break from music. But she wasn’t sure how she’d evade the media; until she got an invitation to Harwell’s

Family: She had a foster family for about 4 years, but doesn’t remember them clearly.

Likes and Dislikes: Summer loves oranges, cake, and candy. Her favorite color is pink. She’s a popstar, so her favorite genre would be pop music. She dislikes being ignored, the color orange (lol), and any genre of music that isn’t pop. She’ll eat anything that’s sweet.

Strengths: Summer is amazing at distraction. She’s bright, and a master manipulator. She knows how to get people to like her. Her powers can be very strong and hard to deal with depending on the target.

Weaknesses: She’s a pretty terrible person if you think about it. She’s gotten where she is on the social ladder because of something she exploited, and feels no regret about it. Other than that, in terms of her powers, she isn’t strong in any other field besides distraction. She tires easily when performing as well.

Other/Trivia: Her FC is Kisaragi Momo from Kagerou Project

Re: [APPLICATIONS THREAD] Harwell's Institute for the Fairly Exceptional

Post by Ace on Tue Dec 20, 2016 5:48 pm

Name: Xavier Xiques
Alias: X
Age: 18
Appearance:
Spoiler:
Hometown: Aguada, Puerto Rico
Personality:  Xavier is very driven to become a superhero because of his brother's death; he wants to get strong enough to become a superhero that will be able to rid his island home of crime. Because of this he has become very focused and at times cold to those around him if he views their actions as extraneous to what he needs to focus on, but on the inside he is actually a kindhearted person - however, it's not easy to break the walls he's put up around himself.
Personality Type: INTJ
Abilities: Electromagnetic Manipulation, Waterbending (including, but not limited to, water manipulation, freezing, evaporating, walking on and breathing in), and Supernatural Agility
Personal History: Xavier was born to a loving family. His life was rather normal, growing up in Puerto Rico. He loved having the freedom he did growing up, but he didn't neglect his family. He was very close with his brother - that is, until he was killed. Dante was mugged by gangsters just blocks away from his house. The family never got over it, and Xavier's father passed a year later. It was only him and his mother, and Xavier was forced to get a job at only 13. Deciding to become a lifeguard to protect others, Xavier finally got a job at the beach at 15 as a junior lifeguard. It was then he discovered his power to manipulate water. He was shocked, and kept his power to himself. At 17, he was at the beach when a storm struck out of nowhere. Pouring rain drove everyone out from the water except for one person who seemed to be caught in a riptide. Xavier rushed out after them and was bringing the person to shore when lightning struck him. It was then that he discovered his second power of electromagnetism - the lightning passed harmlessly through him. Thankfully, the man had fainted and when he woke up, Xavier was gone. After finishing high school, Xavier was planning to go to college on a gymnastics scholarship he had earned due to his third ability. However, that's when everything changed - the letter arrived, and his life would never be the same.
Family: Alex Xiques (father, passed), Evelyn Xiques (mother, 42), Dante Xiques (older brother, murdered)
Likes and Dislikes: He enjoys anything that reminds him of home (Puerto Rico), dogs, and reading fiction. Extreme dislike for people who think they're all that, country music, and Dominicans.
Strengths: His intellect and ability to think on his feet have served him well no matter what he does, powers or not. He isn't going to be able to outsmart someone who is specially gifted, but he can probably think a few steps ahead of the common criminal.
Weaknesses: High levels of heat can inhibit his two main powers, causing his electromagnetism to become less useful and his water to possibly evaporate into steam. He also has a weakness for women, but enough about that. Finally, his pride can get in the way of him, and if he underestimates an opponent he can take risks that he normally wouldn't.
Other/Trivia: Speaks Spanish

Fix-It and Ace: Accepted!

The RPG thread will be going up soon! For those of you who have yet to turn in a form, don't worry -- the RPG won't move too fast at first, so you'll have time. Once we just get a bit more forms in, the RP will pick up.

Re: [APPLICATIONS THREAD] Harwell's Institute for the Fairly Exceptional

Post by Ace on Tue Dec 20, 2016 7:32 pm

Just finished updating my other form!

Name: Damien Du Couteau
Alias: Shift
Age: 18
Appearance:
Spoiler:
Hometown: Los Angeles, California
Personality: This will be developed as it works out.
Personality Type: ENTJ
Abilities: Shape-shifting (he can currently only shapeshift into animals, and also change his human appearance), matter absorption (he uses this along with his shape-shifting to change into bigger or smaller animals by absorbing the matter's mass. He can also use it in his human form - however, his current limit is about 15 feet. It also takes more effort to grow than it does to shrink, although returning to his normal, human appearance seems to be effortless. While absorbing the matter, he can also absorb the properties of the materials (metal, wood, crystal, water, etc.), but he isn't able to use this aspect of it yet). Finally, his last ability is telepathy. He can look into another living being's mind and get information and grasp their personalities, which would allow him to mimic them. He can also speak into living being's minds, which is useful for when he shape-shifts into an animal due to the fact that he cannot use human speech while in those forms. He has also been working on making this ability useful in combat, although it is still in the works - his goal is to use it for devastating mental attacks, and also to shield from another telepath. However, he hasn't yet made any progress.
Personal History: Damien's mother died after he was born and his relationship with his father, Alexander Du Couteau, was strained and distant. Damien spent his early childhood living in the dorms of a boarding school as his father focused solely on his studies. A lack of guidance and being bullied by others, Damien became a juvenile delinquent, constantly getting into fights and even going so far as to join a gang. Six months before enrolling at the local high school he received a message from his father and returned to his home only to find him bleeding to death. Dante told his son up front that if he wanted to live a peaceful life, that he should get up and walk away, but if he wanted to 'fight' in his place he should take the serum in the secret compartment in his laboratory, for once he did he would surely be able to find his killer. Before Alexander could provide Damien with further information he caught sight of a shadowy female figure out of the corner of his eye. Damien dashed outside the house but was unable to apprehend the fleeing woman. Before he could get back in an explosive device of some kind detonated and lit the house ablaze. Damien watched in horror, screaming for his father, but to no avail. Vowing revenge Damien became a wandering vagrant looking for clues behind the killer's identity and whereabouts.
Family: Alexander Du Couteau (father, dead), Catharine Du Couteau (mother, dead)
Likes and Dislikes: Likes are black and red, anything unhealthy, and horror movies.
Dislikes are the colors white and blue, shrimp (allergy), and most television or movies other than a specific genre.
Strengths: Damien always get what he wants, one way or another. He is socially adept, in that he knows how to read people and get them to like him.
Weaknesses: Damien doesn't fully understand his powers - or at all. While other may have had some practice with them, Damien only recently acquired his and has no training with them whatsoever. The only "practice" he's had, so to speak, is that they've accidentally occurred when he hasn't been trying to use them. And that has led to more than one awkward situation. He also tends to be very stubborn and more of a lone wolf; teamwork isn't exactly his thing.
Other/Trivia: He is lit af.

Re: [APPLICATIONS THREAD] Harwell's Institute for the Fairly Exceptional

Post by Michael DeathFlame on Tue Dec 20, 2016 10:39 pm

Finally decided not to be lazy.

Name: Gregorio "Greg" Perrino
Alias: Jumpman
Age: 17
Appearance:
Hometown: Boston
Personality: Hopefully the bio will help spell this out. Greg feels like he's constantly trying to prove himself to others, and will do whatever he can to make people see him in a positive light. However, this doesn't make him overly competitive, exactly. He will never try to push someone down in order to push himself up; he wants to be great, but he doesn't want to shove people out of the way to get there. Even Greg is trying to figure out who he is right now.
Personality Type: Still need to figure this one out.
Abilities: The Codename kind of gives it away, doesn't it? Greg has the ability to jump. Yeah, jump. His powers max out at about a 60 foot vertical jump and a 80 foot long jump. If he can get a few long jumps in a row, Greg can essentially travel at a pretty high speed. His powers are accompanied with a body that can take an almost infinite amount of shock... so long as it's shock followed by a jump, that is. If Greg crouches down and propels himself forward by pushing off the ground with one or two feet, his body can tolerate whatever force comes afterwards. However, if you were to punch him, kick him, etc while he's not jumping... well, he's just as breakable as any other high school boy. Despite his jumping abilities, he does not have super human legs; if he's not using his legs for jumping, they're just normal legs. This means he can't run at extreme speeds or break a building with a kick.
Personal History: Greg was the third child in his family, with two older brothers and two younger sisters. From the very beginning, Greg felt like his life was one, large contest that he always seemed to lose. Coming from a large Italian family, greg had numerous older cousins along with his siblings, all of whom seemed to be successful at everything they did. His oldest brother, Ronnie, played college basketball at Duke, and his second oldest brother, Jon, was going to MIT for computer science. All of his life he grew up in the shadow of his brothers, and his parents did very little to ease that pain; if anything, they made it worse. Greg's parents thought that the more they pushed him, the better he would perform. In actuality, this just made Greg's life harder, as he quickly started to believe that everyone around him expected him to become something great, something important, something worthwhile. And he never had that. He was always average in school, average in athletics, average in his social life. He had a few friends, wasn't picked last at recess for dodgeball, and he got solid Bs. But that's about it. The older he got the more he was pressured by his parents to be better. And even though he tried his best, he really never succeeded. In high school he joined the track and field team, and finally found a niche for himself. He found that he was decent enough at short distance races, and he particularly excelled at the high jump. For one, blissful year, Greg thought he had achieved something great. Sure, he wasn't the best track athlete, but he was getting medals. Medals that belonged to him, not his brothers, but him. For once, his parents were slightly proud of him. Then he got his powers, and that just screwed everything over. They developed during practice on a normal, April day. One day he tried to high jump, and instead of clearing the six foot bar, he soared into the air, landing back on his feet to a stunned audience.
When it was revealed that he was a superhuman, he was banned from all track and field events, since it was deemed that his abilities gave him an unfair advantage. His powers also awarded him with mockery from his fellow classmates; his abilities, along with his obvious Italian heritage, won him the nickname "Jumpman" and "Mario." His home life didn't improve either. His grandparents were embarrassed to learn that the only grandchild they had with superpowers had the grand ability to jump really, really high. Oh, the honor. Greg's feeling of failure grew larger and larger, to the point where he'd be willing to do anything to prove his own self-worth. And if that includes going away to some freak school... yeah, he'd be down.
Family: Pretty sure the bio goes into this well enough. Although he loves his older brothers, the constant competition that he always felt never really let him grow as close to them as he could have. His fourteen year old sister, Marica, never really spoke to him, although he always had a soft spot for his nine-year-old sister, Cara. As you can imagine, he's not all that fond of his parents.
Likes and Dislikes: Likes baseball, frisbee, random Wikipedia time-wasting, and good Italian food. Dislikes New York sports, English class, football, and bad Italian food.
Strengths: Greg has always been a quick thinker, and is good at recovering from a bad situation. He is extremely adaptable, and can change tactics on the drop of the dime if necessary. Greg is also a good team player, rarely putting the needs of his friends or team over himself. Even if he tells himself he's taking on the whole hero gig for the sake of gaining some much needed respect, he also really does want to help people. Greg is, at heart, a genuinely good human being. Although he will often back down if someone has a differing opinion from him, he will never back down if someone wants to take a course of action that will harm a large chunk of people.
Weaknesses: Greg has no formal training of any martial art style, and he has the typical build of an average high school track athlete, ie not strong. He's not the kind of person who'd run into a fight anytime soon; he'd much rather shoot a barrage of rubber bullets at his enemies than engage them in hand to hand combat. Because that would almost definitely not work out for him. He also doesn't have too much hero experience before joining Harwell's, obviously. Greg's desire to prove himself also gets in the way often; if he sees the slightest hint of an opening for him to take someone down or look impressive, he'll take it no matter how small of a hint it is. He also isn't the strongest leader; although he has a tremendous amount of faith in the people he trusts, he can't trust himself enough to tell other people what to do, and thus often doesn't stand by his own thoughts or opinions when confronted by a contrasting opinion from a friend or teammate. This means he will often go along with what someone else thinks even when he internally disagrees.
Other/Trivia:
-He was originally created for Minor League
-He's bisexual
-He had a small mustache initially, but quickly shaved that off in the hopes that people would stop calling him Mario. It didn't work.

Re: [APPLICATIONS THREAD] Harwell's Institute for the Fairly Exceptional

Post by Omni on Wed Dec 21, 2016 12:00 am

One more form left after this one. I'm hoping to get that up tomorrow.

Just Your Average Cyborg DJ:
Name: Casey Nowell

Aliases: She currently goes by Thalia Boivin. Her DJ name, which doubles as her super-name, is Middle-8.

Age: 21

Appearance:

Hometown: She’s currently operating out of Seattle, WA.

Personality: You know what I’m gonna say here, right?

Personality Type: ENFP

Abilities: Middle-8 originally possessed the power to outright control the minds of large crowds of people through singing, but following the loss of her original voice, her power has been reduced; now, her singing is unable to control minds, but can still project images into the minds of her listeners and can even overwhelm their senses. She has also gained some new abilities from her cybernetic enhancements which compensate for her lost power. Middle-8 is not capable of playing back any recorded sound, and of synthesizing a variety more, in addition to her new voice. The faceplate containing her speakers also functions as a gas mask, and her left eye can see into the ultraviolet and infrared spectra as well as record video. Her replacement ears are far more acute than any human’s, can hear far higher and lower sounds, can pinpoint the direction of sounds well enough to allow Middle-8 to echolocate, can record audio, and also function as receivers and transmitters for radio and cell phone signals. Her robotic right arm possesses superhuman strength, speed, and dexterity, though the lack of reinforcement to the rest of her body sharply limits the actual amount she can lift with it. Her right hand also functions as a taser, among other things. Finally, the increased strength and shock absorption capability of her prosthetic legs means that she run at speeds equaling the greatest human sprinters easily and can jump and fall safely from far greater heights than a normal human. While she can’t walk up walls, the odd design of her feet allows her to grip surfaces for greater stability and potentially even run vertically for brief periods. The power of her legs, along with her general Francophile tendencies, has driven Middle-8 to adopt savate as her fighting style of choice.

Personal History:
Publicly, Middle-8 is a fixture of the Seattle club scene, a cyborg DJ with superhuman powers, a paragon of hedonism who sometimes rises to the occasion when a hero is needed. Outside of the limelight, however, she’s not a hero, but a killer.

Born under the name Casey Nowell to an abusive mother in rural Oklahoma, the girl who would become Middle-8 had anything but a happy childhood. Unbeknownst to her, she was the daughter of the mind-controlling supervillain Belesprit, to whom her mother had been in thrall when Casey was conceived and born. After Belesprit’s capture and extradition to France, the infant Casey’s mother had moved out into the country, as far away from Belesprit’s beloved cities as she could get, taking Casey, who she couldn’t help but see as a symbol of what Belesprit had done to her, with her.

Casey’s powers manifested when she was thirteen years old, singing in the church choir. One by one, the other singers had gone silent as the power of her voice grew. The whole congregation sat staring up at her with blank expressions on their faces, and Casey quickly realized that she could make them do whatever she wanted. She forced her mother to stand before them, admitting everything she’d ever done to Casey, every secret, every sin. During that confession, Casey learned who her father was and resolved to go to France to see him. In her mind, she even harbored fantasies of helping him escape from prison, of staying with him, of being happy…

Unfortunately—for Casey at least—the reality of the situation wasn’t so simple. After running away from home, Casey was nearly penniless, with no way to get to France, and no way to break Belesprit out once she got there. She needed resources, and while her power could get them for her, it wouldn’t be subtle, the way that mind control through speech might be, and the last thing that she needed was some superhero up in her business. So, Casey went subtle. Using her powers, she won the loyalties of a small army of petty criminals and homeless youth, who helped her build her resources.

After four years, at age sixteen, she was nearly ready to go to France and enact a plan to free her father when the supervillain Overshadow learned of her existence. Overshadow, though by no means a hero, had been the one responsible for Belesprit’s capture, having incapacitated the French supervillain and brought him to the police following the battle in which Belesprit’s teammates Blue Ruin and Alex Song had killed Helios. He had known that Belesprit had had a child and, in the interest of wrapping up loose ends, had had feelers out searching for the child for several years. As Casey prepared at last for her trip across the Atlantic, her network grew to the point that it attracted the notice of Overshadow’s informants, and any remaining doubts about her identity were settled by comparing her to descriptions given by those who had witnessed the incident at the church. Once Overshadow knew Casey’s location, he arranged an accident for her by feeding information to one of her rivals in the underworld, a pyrokinetic called the Tribulation, allowing him to ambush her. Overshadow’s intervention in the battle ensured that Casey survived—and that the Tribulation didn’t—but she lost one arm and both legs, which Overshadow arranged to have replaced with cybernetic enhancements. He also mutilated Casey’s vocal chords and gave her a new computer-generated voice during the surgery to cripple her power, in case she ever learned the truth and turned against him. Once Casey came to, Overshadow told her that, because he had been the one to send her father to prison after he had done something to hurt somebody Overshadow cared about, he felt that he had a responsibility to look after Casey in his stead and that he only wished he could have found her sooner. In exchange for swearing off her attempts to free her father, Casey gained an alliance with Overshadow, who furnished her with a new public identity as Thalia Boivin, AKA Middle-8. In exchange, Middle-8 became Overshadow’s new right-hand woman. When she achieved international recognition for her music—among other things—at age eighteen, granting her greater access to targets, she became his personal assassin as well.

Recently, Middle-8 received a new assignment: to get close to Phoebe Murdoch, AKA Burnout, for reasons which Overshadow has not yet revealed to her. To that end, she’s begun a relationship with Phoebe’s older brother Connor, but she recognizes that that may not be enough. It may, finally, be time to pay a visit to Harwell’s.

Family: Middle-8’s mother, Deborah, still lives in rural Oklahoma; the two haven’t met or spoken since she ran away. Her father, Belesprit, is imprisoned in his native France.

Likes and Dislikes: As usual, leaving this blank.

Strengths: Middle-8’s cybernetic enhancements give her access to a greater range of abilities than most superhumans possess. She also has the benefits of Overshadow’s criminal empire behind her as well as her own popularity. While she’s certainly a controversial figure, nobody suspects her of being a supervillain, and she has lots of fans.

Weaknesses: While Middle-8 has a very wide range of abilities, none of them are especially strong compared to what many other superhumans are capable of, and without her cybernetic enhancements, she’s just a one-armed, no-legged girl who can’t breathe. She’s also very much dependent on Overshadow, despite her dislike for him, and she’s not very psychologically stable.

Other/Trivia: Overshadow contracted the work on Middle-8’s primary voicebank out to Yamaha and eventually licensed it for commercial release, making Middle-8 the only superhuman in the world to run on Vocaloid software.

One other thing that might influence how your characters react when they meet Middle-8, which I’m cordoning off here: Middle-8 first came to national prominence in 2013, shortly after the VMAs, when Miley Cyrus’s performance there was a major news item. At her first concert after the VMAs, while the controversy was still raging, Middle-8, halfway through her set, launched into a brief tirade about the hypocrisy she saw in people’s reactions to it. She concluded by saying “Have you ever seen motherfucking Miley Cyrus do this?” and then, after switching her robotic hand to vibrator mode, shoving it down the front of the baggy pants she was wearing and bringing herself to orgasm live on stage. She then went on to finish the concert.

Mike and Omni: Accepted!

Kendall Nolan:
Name: Kendall Nolan

Alias: Phantom

Age: 17

Appearance:

He's 5'11". His hair's not as sleek, and only goes down to his shoulders (though it's still long enough to tie back). It's not exactly how I picture Kendall, but it's the closest I've been able to get.

Hometown: Orlando, Florida

Personality: Kendall is slimy yet naturally charismatic. He'll almost always act friendly when someone first meets him, but he also almost always has an ulterior motive for doing something, and likes to prove that there's a reason why he's been locked up in juvi several times. He does have a bit of a soft side, but not everyone easily walks their way into it.

Personality Type: ENTP now, but prone to change

Abilities:

- Intangibility. Kendall can phase through solid matter and most walls, though not through anything made of metal. That means a room with metal walls would be enough to keep him in, and he can't just phase through most bullets.

- Hyper Persuasion. Kendall can tell people what to do with his voice. It only works when he's making direct eye contact, and the effects can only last for a minute.

Personal History: Kendall was born to an average family of slight higher class. Said family happened to be a family that thought superhumans were a threat, when he happened to be a superhuman who could walk through solid matter without harm and could use his voice to persuade others.

He wasn't the only one. His younger sister, Ella, also happened to be born with the same powers that he had, and her powers were even stronger than his. The two, fearing what the rest of their family would say should they ever find out, shared their secrets with each other, and swore to never tell another soul.

But like all things, that resolution fell apart soon enough. Kendall didn't want to spend the rest of his life cowering, so he gathered his courage and told his mother and father about what he could do. The reaction wasn't pretty. They only saw him as someone who could bring harm. Becoming bitter, Kendall decided that if his parents couldn't see him as someone who could do good, why should he even try to be good?

He learned to manipulate for his own well-being. He learned to never feel the tugging of a conscience, except for when Ella found out about such antics. Seeing her disappointed face disheartened him, but it didn't stop him from continually phasing into various stores and robbing them, consistently landing himself in juvenile detention centers -- and landing himself in juvenile detention centers again when he phased out of the cells. It was only until when he was on parole and physically assaulted his uncle that the International Superhuman Organization finally intervened and placed him in a cell that he had no chance of escaping from. However, his antics haven't just caught the attention of the ISO . . .

Family: Sarah Nolan (Mother, 43), Connor Nolan (Father, 45), Cecilia Nolan (Older sister, 21), Ella Nolan (Younger sister, 14), Carter Nolan (Younger brother, 9)

Likes and Dislikes: He likes the color orange, Batman, and rock music. He doesn't like chocolate.

Strengths: Kendall is very charming, and can easily use that to his advantage. He does think things through, and thus doesn't have a bad intellect. He doesn't let emotions get in the way of anything.

Weaknesses: He's not that much of a fighter. He's fairly strong, but he has low stamina and speed, and hasn't had formal combat training. Kendall is very overconfident, so he doesn't usually devise a Plan B. He doesn't like working with groups much, and when he does, the only way he feels secure if he's the leader or whatnot.

Other/Trivia:

-His theme is Made For You by OneRepublic. It's not that the lyrics correlate strongly to his personality -- it just feels like him for some reason.

- He deliberately grew out his hair as long as he did to rebel against his parents.
